And am sure the current situation will benefit the possibility of future aid workers and Christian missionaries if this is the way they get treated over a trivial matter thats been blown out of proportion such as this has.

Considering we're supposed to be living in a civilised society (in Britain anyway) in the 21st century it's direful that countries such as this still feel they have to jump on the blasphemous bandwagon at every opportunity !

I wonder why people even both going to these types of countries, they dont care or appreciate it anyway.

What proof do they actually have ??? Are they going to get the teddy bear in the dock and ask it what its name is and show its birth certificate ???

Agree in principle - although the practicality might be somewhat different ...

I do know this - I am sick and tired of the UK taking the softly, softly non-combative approach when one of its citizens is under threat from one of these backward nations - nations who we prop up with millions of pounds of aid every year because their ruling regimes are either incapable of providing for their own citizens or riddled with corruption.

This woman is no more trying to incite racial hatred or take the name of the Prophet in vain than I'm trying to claim my name is Nelson Mandela. There's even significant figures in/sections of the Muslim community denouncing this as a farce - how many more before these retards finally take notice FFS?

I'm not saying we should immediately declare war on any nation that threatens our citizens, but when communicating through diplomatic channels forget the traditional British "Excuse me old chap, I wonder if you wouldn't mind awfully ..." and just cut to the chase "Lay one finger on x or y and you can forget that several million in aid we promised you ..." or such like.

I guess part of this is retribution for our part in Bush's little escapade in Iraq, but I just wish we'd find a bit of backbone for Christ's sake - our ancestors must be turning in their graves watching the way our leaders say "Oh dear" and wring their hands nowadays ...

Would such comments be allowed if the word Muslim were replaced with Jew/Blacks/Gay, or Islam with Chrsitianity/Judaism/Atheism?

I am deeply disappointed at what seems to be the tacit approval of the feelings in this thread by the silence of those who moderate the forum. :(
 
wearing clothes outside, forming queues to get into places, complaining about the weather, not killing someone because you don't like their face. That sort of thing.

Those arent UK specific cultural norms. Afaik people have to queue in Sudan as well same with the rest of your "examples".

As regarding the whole story: well if she is going to work in another culture then she should have done some research on said country so that this type of situation doesnt come up because she will know better. Ignorance isnt an excuse if you break the law here - it isnt in Sudan either. Although i do accept that the true meaning of the situation has become very political and is more than just about her, kids and a teddy bear's name.

What do you want them to do, condone the treatment of this woman? Say that Islam is a really nice and level-headed religion with some very fair laws and practises?

Oh come on....Its pretty obvious from the title what is going to be said so if you're going to take offence why read the thread? No-one has said anything with 'hate'; micky taking yes, but then if you mistake this for hatred maybe you ought to be in Sudan where you can enjoy you're utopian Islamic bliss.

Any wonder why the average Joe hasn't any time for it.

If you cant understand how repressed/stagnant and hypocritical the culture of your religion has become then i would say the ignorance is yours. If the ignorance is on our side you have done nothing to show us to be wrong.

Well i must admit people do tend to get a bit arrogant when they know they are right, and until proved otherwise will tend to stay that way.

Apart from a few Nuke um posts ive seen nothing that would count as hatred. The only real hatred ive seen from this whole event seems to come from Muslim fanatics condemning the teacher.

Im sure the same mix of posts and opinions/posts would happen if a Christian country was to arrest someone for calling a stuffed bear Jesus.

And I am deeply disappointed that a UK citizen trying to do something to help the oppressed masses of Sudan better themselves now faces a medieval punishment woefully out of all perspective with what she's supposed to have done.

Are you surprised that feelings are running high and some people's blood is boiling? Why stop with her - it was supposedly the children who actually came up with the name, so why not sink fully into barbarity and flog them? If you're savage enough to beat or stone a woman, then why not children? After all, the Sudanese authorities are insisting there's a religious principle at stake here and it was the children that took the name in vain ...

You didn't mind the mods allowing your posts saying you support Iraqis and Afghans attacking British troops

Have you used the Report to Moderator button for any posts you feel have gone too far and broken the forum rules? What posts in particular do you feel have broken the forum rules?

I am not sure if it is you reading more in to it than is actual there. The moderators probably have a reasonably wide range of views on the issue. To be honest as long as the posts do not break the forum rules then they should be allowed, regardless of if I agree with the sentiments or not.

Nope and I have not suggested such a thing.

What is the purpose of this thread? Is it to discuss the the actual story or is it to have a go at Islam and Muslim's regardless of the merits of the story?
