Warning : BFG 8800GT OC - Nearly killed it

Hey All,

SpeedFan reported my BFG 8800GT OC running at 114degC today.

There is a stupid sticker in the middle of the fan which is stuck on top of an Nvidia label on the fan, this had come off and jammed in the fan.

My idle was 90+ degC and I couldnt work out why, it was only when playing with the fan speed in RivaTuner that I noticed it wasnt spinning

COD4 kept crashing.

Things have cooled down and COD4 hasnt crashed again since

but if it was idling at 90 degrees, why the hell did you then put stress on it :|

I didnt.

I was playing COD4 which kept crashing, checked temps with SpeedFan and then looked back through the logs to see a highest temp of 114debC.

Depending on Vendors Bios it may have Core Slow Down Threshold of 105-125C, it was not in danger of melting.

Hmm I have version 4.34 and my 8800GT is not listed there

It shows up as Core and Ambient, if you click on configure you can see what items are associated with each device.

Same for my 8800GT, quiet as a bird ingame, yet it was running on 93 degrees...

now I use fan profiles, and it works like a charm. 65degrees on 60% fan speed.

Im sure someone else had this problem with the sticker to on their BFG card, and there was another thread about a one (i think was a BFG) making a terrible screeching from the fan as it was catching on something as well, so id definately check your cards if you got the BFG's.

I'd report it to BFG.

Noy much they can do about it now, apart from apologise, but it might make them think twice about putting stupid stickers on where they are not wanted.
