If you had to pick one ale to survive with...

Mine would be a St. Peter's 'India Pale Ale' - sadly St. Peters is only available in one pub in London, and I think the IPA is only sold bottled in Waitrose.

At the moment - Old Speckled Hen.

I do like Speckled Hen but asking you to pick your favourite ale is like asking you to pick your favourite food - it's impossible. You'd tire of anything after a while.

I therefore declare my contribution to this thread to be, "all of them".

Have a nice night :).

I quite like Badger ales ATM. Most are easy drinking, and not all 'hardcore' by any means. My favourite being the gingery Blandford Fly. Lovely with a massive BBQ burger.

If I had to survive on one ale, it'd be a local brew - 'Old Gurner' from Ossett brewery, though for something more readily available, I'm partial to Theakstons' Old Perculiar at this time of year!

Yes, Old Peculiar is a great pint.

I know what Adz is saying, tastes change. However, as a 'youth' my favourite ales were Banks's and Courage Director's and I still say they smile with the gods.

I quite like the beers from the Phoenix brewery in Heywood (Gr Manchester). Wobbly Bob is a good one, only problem is its quite strong (6%) so you have to take it easy.

If we're allowed to nip over to the continent for our choices, then I'm not half partial to a bit of Duvel. Far too easy to drink for something that's 8.5% :o

I haven't seen it for ages, but i got extremely happy an an ale called Jester. Don't know who bres it and haven't seen it since.

Fair point - there's no such thing as a bad ale (with the possible exception of Bishop's Finger), only badly-kept ale ...

However, if forced to express a preference, than you won't go wrong with any of the wonderful brews from a certain brewery based in Southwold :D

This by any chance? Unlucky if so..

I'd find it incredibly hard to pick a single favourite - Waggledance and Old Peculiar I can usually rely on, at other times Directors, Adnams Bitter...Used to be Old Speckled Hen all the way before it changed :(

And, posted before, my current obsession is Lia Fail. I'm looking at an empty bottle of it over on my shelf now :(
