Metallica - Instramental Gods ?

'One' is their best song IMO, it's just unbelievably good in so many ways.

Around 89 I was playing in a showband where we did 4 part tight harmonies doing stuff like The Eagles etc.
The other 3 members and roadie were all Eagles, James Taylor, Jackson Browne fans.
On the way to the gig we were listening to the radio and ONE came on and there was silence in the van and when the song finished you could hear a pin drop.
About a minute later one of them said "WTF was that, that was bloody amazing?"
"That was Metallica" I said.

They never became Metallica fans but I'll never forget that moment when 4 soft rock fans were speechless at the sheer brilliance of a hard rock band.

Hahaha :D

You seem to have a story for everything dmpoole :p

Metallica are the best metal band of all time, even if their newer stuff isn't good'; what they did back in the day is enough to last forever.

Iv'e been a fan since i was about 10. My favorite album of theirs is Ride The Lightning. St Anger gets a lot of stick but i really do like that album, and like many people have said, you have to hear it live to really feel it.
I get into arguments with some friends about Metallica after one to many pints at the pub, as they are huge Megadeth fans, and automatically slate anything Metallica do, But each to their own i guess.

The Metallica vs Megadeth argument has been raging since i was a kid and im 36 now, although if you look at Megadeth's output over the last ten years compared to Metallica i'd say Deth are winning hands down:p

I wasn't even a fan until about 5yrs ago, I used to think 'Master Of Puppets' was their only good song lol. I gave their other old stuff a listen and that was it, hooked...infact of all the songs I've learnt on guitar I think at least 4 are Metallica songs.

Saw them in July at Wembley, so damn good.

Kirk is right up there with my favs along side Dime.

Wish there was some bass on ..AJFA, it almost sounds prog rock in places. They will never top Fade to black imo, Metallica at their best.

Its a real shame that the production on that album absolutely sucks. Some of their best stuff and it sounds like it was recorded in a cardboard box.

I'm glad to see so many metallica fans around.

a lot of people i know slate them all the time, when infact i believe they've played a part in shaping heavy rock itself.

I'm a big Metallica fan, and Orion is one of my fave tracks off Master. I think the last few albums are average at best, but we all know that I guess. I actually thought the vid for St Anger was some sort of joke, my jaw hit the floor when I realised that was the new single...

Hope they tour again soon, saw them at Wembley for the 5th time, always a good live show.

I saw Metallica at Hammersmith Odeon on the Master of Puppets tour in 1986 a week before Cliff Burton was killed. awesome show. Hetfield had his arm in a sling after a skateboard accident and one of the roadies was playing Rhythm Guitar (member of Metal Church I believe). Also saw them at Donnington in 1987. Really good live.

Have been a fan since MOP. Saw them on the Black tour, and last year on their 20th anniversary where they played the whole MOP album from start to finish which was great. Have to say that i think St Anger is absolutely terrible. Loved the single but when i got the Album i couldn't believe what i was hearing. Then i watched Some Kind of Monster and thought in the context of the film the music sounded good so i gave the cd another listen and i'm still of the opinion that St Anger is the worst cd to date. My fear is that post rehab Metallica is lacking it's muse, and seems to be totally short of inspiration both lyrically and musically as seen on St Anger. I think their next Album could either be brilliant or the beginning of the end for them.

Personally i would like to see them go back to the raw aggression of the early days, but then age and sobriety have probably put paid to that.

Funny thing about Korea set are those new songs. It's almost like Metallica retarded back to garage days on St.Anger - bad sound, monotoneous broken spring snare, sloppy riffing, screeching vocals, the "couldn't use 6 strings if my life depended on it" pose - and now "progresses" along original path back to Kill'Em All times - short, simple, basic oy melodies, almost football chants with 4/4 section and quick, messy, "to the point" solos. With a bit of luck they might actually reach second melodic apogeum in 2 albums. ;)

Instrumental Gods? Listen to the drumming, that should change your mind. ;)

The rest of the band are at a world class standard of their instrument though. :)

Yeh there good :D

Finally got to see them at wembley after about a decade of missing there tours.
Same here, they did a few instrumentals iirc, Orion live which was immense, and Ktulu which was great.

Plus full version of Disposable Heroes, Justice and Puppets
