M5 been shunted - advice pls (& pics of deformed french rubbish)

Dont they have the match a courtesy car thats within the same "group" as your car thats being taken away/repaired. A guy i know got hit while in his Merc (cant remember Model). But they gave him an M3 as a courtesy car..

funny boys eh???

when your dad has a type of cancer you'll mybe realize then how pathetic this thread is.

Dude - deep breath :) My old man died from cancer earlier this year, that isn't going to change the fact that a like for like car is deserved in this case. Sometimes its better not to get involved with threads if they get to you so much :) Hope things work for out for your Dad.

On a lighter note - now that M5 is damaged I'll take it off your hands as a favour mate.

Look at this thread. The next time someone on this forum gets rearended and posts photos of it I swear we'll see people launching DDoS attacks on each other.

Not at all surprised by lack of damage to the M5, it's simple physics.

Do hope you get a like for like replacement in the mean time, as otherwise I'd be severely ******.

Maybe a car naturally crumples more at the front to stop your heart leaving its socket if you hit something.
Does the bmw have a 5* safety rating like a French Cleo/Modus? Then what would you prefer to have a crash in?
Maybe Im biased with having a French car myself & would prefer not to have a crash over 20mph in my particular poop.
Is it unreasonable to ask for a replacement Rolls Royce for 2 weeks if somebody scratches yours? Why would someone with a damaged Volvo estate have to put up with a temporary Opel estate? Where do you draw the line? Thus everyone should have the same temporary car that fits their equivalent practical needs.
Why cant the damage be fixed in 1 day? I thought it was German & efficient (I just had to get that in) ;)
There are more objective sides to a story!

It has a 4 star rating. The Citroen Berlingo which crashed into it has not been tested but the front end is similar to the Xsara, which has a 3 star rating. There were no Clios or Modus involved in the accident, so quite what they have to do with anything I don't know.

Reading from page 1, I noticed people were saying a French car was 'poop' compared to a German car, being as this revolved around an accident I cited French safety ratings to prove the nationality of a car does not mean its safety is impaired because its French.
Also I tried to point out that the front of a car would naturally crumple more than the rear, so as to improve safety, which was another jibe at French cars.
Dont get me wrong, I like German cars as much as French cars, I thought this thread was getting a bit biased & therefore not productive to the original question.

it is nonsense i agree

about 7-8 years ago my dad ran his E39 into the back of a stationary mondeo at no more than 10mph on the M20
the bmw looked very damaged..
the bonnet crumpled up a good foot or so which made the rain steam off the engine, one of the headlights was smashed and the functioning one shone up into the sky..
the mondeo had a scratch at most

i remember the same thing happening in a cavalier.. we hit a volvo 340 which had a stupidly high bumper, and all that happened was a smashed indicator
crumple zones are there for a reason, and the damage looks much worse than it really is

Ohh well, it happens and although it is an expensive car its a risk that you take every day by driving it. Just make sure it gets well sorted with a good paint match, if not you will be left with a far less valuable car at the end of it.
