COD4 double EXP weekend PS3

All these bloody ps3 owners on my list playing COD4 is seriously tempting me to buy I game I promised I wouldn't. Especially as I have Uncharted to complete still and Mass Effect!!

Edit: quick question (I am sure I could look this up) Can games be hosted and played just between mates with no randomns are does it use an appalling matchmaking system ala HALO3? I don't mind if I have the choice of the two, but I am unlikely to buy a game that is matchmaking only, for online.

select private match and just use the invite friend and invite whoever's online in call of duty. You won't gain xp for private matches but you can mess with the options like make only headshots count as kills.

You can do private matches but you don't get exp for them.

Excellent, I am going to buckle and buy this tonight I suspect.

Anyone got specific server issues I should be aware of? I am assuming the ps3 servers are hosted, as opposed to the p2p servers on 360, which is the main thing for me as the games play the same apart from the online server differences from what I have read (briefly) online. I know this will make a difference for large games. Is this a 16 player or 32 player game btw?

Not as snappy as resistance but it does work. Teamdeath match mode can take awhile to find a game sometimes, I believe the reason for the double points is to make up for server issues. As far as i'm aware the system in place is the same as live ie a matchmaking service p2p.

Few issues need to be addressed in a patch:
If the host quits the match ends it's quite annoying
similarly if you're in a game lobby and the host quits then you're thrown out of the lobby

Hopefully they'll put in a server swap in the patch but it's a brillant shooter whatever platform you get it on.

And 16 or 32 players? Annoying the servers aren't hosted as I am kind of used to this now with other ps3 games, and appreciate the flexibility it gives in having larger games, without being reliant on a single person's connection.

18 players max in ground war mode. I've never felt though that the game has suffered due to a lack of players. 8 player deathmatch can be tense as you are constantly trying to get the jump on the enemy.
32 players max on the pc if you have the hardware to run it well on that platform.

Perfect. The amount of ps3 people on my list praising this game is enough for me to get it, but I appreciate the additional information you have provided.

18 max I believe same as 360, which works well enough as the maps are not really massive

Excellent, after shelling out for the, frankly, disappointingly overhyped Halo 3 I am questioning my FPS purchases more carefully.

, i actually agree, COD4 is simply the best online FPS console game i have played, the challenges within the game and perks that you unlock keep the game fresh and exciting, Halo3 doesn't even come close IMHO. Money well spent and as with all COD series it will be supported well with patches and map packs

I agree with McManicMan, CoD4, for me, blows Halo3 away. It offers more enjoyment and incentives, better maps and lots of gametypes.

At the end of the year I'm sure I will still think Orange box is GOTY, but for that price and the reviews it has been getting you can't go wrong
