Cleaning Thermal Paste From Processor

Hello,

Just a quick question do i really need to use a cleaner (ie Alcohol) when removing thermal paste from a cpu or can i just get by removing with a tissue/cloth.

isopropyl alcohol <-- works like a charm.

I wouldn't use just a cloth as you want to completely remove all residue.

Remove the gunk with a clean tissue/cloth and then clean it with a slightly damp tissue/cloth if you don't have any proper cleaner.

I too need some of this, I have noticed some Isoproyl Wipes, would these do the job?

Should do. Tho you can get 500ml of iso-propyl for under a fiver at that great auction site in the sky.

Tbh I haven't really had the chance to test it yet. It runs sweet, but my machine is primarily a folding rig and I'm waiting to buy another 2gb of memory before spending a week or two on HL2.

I use Akasa TIM cleaner. Dab some on, wait 30 secs, and it just wipes off completely in one motion, all shiny underneath.

it's quite widely sold, and isn't exacly expensive, why not invest in some?

Vodka is for drinking not throwing on your cpu.

That is good stuff, and as someone has previously said - it smells lemony fresh too

But if you get it on your hands, then it's a bugger to get the smell off lol.
