Carragher was subbed cause if he gets yellow carded, he'll miss the United game.

Hyypia on makes sense in a way and absolutely none in another.

Head-shakingly poor.
 
Fair play to the guy, he could hav brought on the attackers and took off our slightly less talented players but to be honest, carragher is required for utd game, and we need to win on tuesday.
He looks like he wasnt willing to gamble and just give in, and looked to the future. cant blame him with all the pressure hes been put under, sorry state of affairs. Voronin and sissoko really do annoy me, they are both rubbish.
 
Awful. Ref had a shocker but the formation and team selection was just as poor. Can't understand why Rafa choose some of the players he did then played them out of position. Not good management.

Arsenal win their game and they're 10 points ahead of us. Not good enough :(
 
Just one of those days today, every decision and bounce went the other way. The way we set-up didn't work like it did vs Newcastle and too many players were making silly mistakes.

As for the Gerrard substitution, it was clear that rather than chase the draw in the last 20mins (which tbh is very unlikely to happen) Rafa felt resting him for Marseille and Utd was the better option and tbh Gerrard would have had to score those 2 goals himself because Crouch wasn't, he had a shocker.

Surely you can figure out that Carra is more useful for 90mins vs Utd than 20mins when we're chasing a game? Its not very difficult if you think about it :rolleyes: Would have Carra affected the result in those last 20mins?

edit\ carra was only off for 10mins

Every game might be worth the same number of points but every game is not the same. One would expect Man U to be harder opponents than Reading. If you want those same 3 points out of Man U you have to put some extra effort in to get them.

He gambled on resting the players that he expects to win him the game against United and still pick up points a Reading with the other players he has.

It didn't pay off, that's life.

Not surprising though was it? Rafa picked a team without wingers and only one attacking midfielder. Who was there to put the crosses in or run on to the knock downs? No one. Was totally pointless playing Crouch today.

We played the same system vs Newcastle and could have won by 7, the problem was Crouch couldn't hold up the ball and link up like Kuyt did and Voronin made stupid decisions when he got the ball out wide.
