The Witcher (PC) vs Mass Effect (360)

Ooooh hard one. Playing both and they're both really good!

Witcher if you're more a medieval/D&D sort of person, Mass Effect if you're a sci-fi fan! Only way to chose, because they're both really good.

So I guess the honest answer is both :P
So far, Witcher seems a lot more gritty/adult than Mass Effect, but that's to be expected with the age rating differences!

Have both. Mass Effect any day, and I'm the type who prefers fantasy RPG's over sci-fi ones.

LOL this would probably be one of the most difficult decisions of my entire life, I love both. :(

That said, my decision would be this: I would refuse to decide and buy both.

Albeit you seem to be one of the few people around who really wasnt too keen on the game, Kainz ^^
Not really. I'm just waiting for the key December patch to come out for the game so I can actually play it without getting 10 crashes in an hour. I think Witcher is a good game, albeit one with poor combat but a top end storyline. However Mass Effect imo just beats it in both areas, on top of that it's from Bioware of all people.

I agree with that but you can't say Mass Effect is without issues.

It has disgusting framerates at times which really annoys me, even when I turned off those silly blur/grain effects in the options, and the inventory system is probably the most dire I've ever seen. :p

Not sure about the framerates as I've yet to have an issue about that, bar the jerk that happens during the loading screens. Inventory system takes time to adjust to but I'm fine with it now. I just see it as the better game, story wise it is superb and the dialogue is immense and you can boink aliens :D

The Witcher is also superb in terms of story and dialogue, and you can boink pretty much everyone. :p

Story/dialogue etc. they're on par, gameplay I'd say they're pretty much on-par.

I have both, but haven't touched Witcher in a long time. That is however, mostly because I can only run it at low on my PC and I'm waiting to upgrade so I can play it at full niceness. I would personally say Mass Effect - but taking ^^ into consideration.

There is 4 rpgs that I've enjoyed this year, and in order of preference they are...

1) The Witcher
2) Mask of the Betrayer (NWN2 addon)
3) Mass Effect
4) Two Worlds

Think that answers the question :).. but really, all are very good (cept maybe Two Worlds which was riddled with all sorts of balance issues).

The Witcher is by far the deepest most rewarding for me. Chioces & consequences was the kicker. Very rare to get real plot twists off that these days. The combat/alchemy/magic system was great. Graphics superb also. You don't get 6 classes to play, only Geralt who is a Witcher but it was done so amazingly well that it felt more compelling.

Mass effect has some C&C as well but it seems rather arbitrary, almost pretend at times. The inventory system is a mess also. Companion and enemy AI is patchy to say the least. I can't help thinking that if it had been designed for PC (with a more traditional PC UI) and given more scope/depth it could have been a real contender. But hey, regardless of all the problems it was still enjoyable.

Just my opinion though....your mileage may vary. ;)

Tough, though i'm only 1/3rd of the way through the Witcher I think i'm enjoying it more... seems better paced, and I like the way the storyline treats the player like a grown up, I didn't really find Mass Effect mature enough in the dialogue, was very 'cool' though. I'd have to say as a game I think i'm steadily preffering the Witcher, however Mass effect was very cool, it's certainly a close one...

Well to be honest i think ive played Mass Effect for longer (16hrs or so)...

However i must have played The Witcher for about 10hrs....

But i would go with the witcher, although both have been fantastic (i actually miss playing the witcher, really loved the time i played with it..must catch up!)

The Witcher without question, simply because the dialogue changes based on events happening rather than repeating the same things and was so much more absorbing because of it. Yes it isnt as polished (due to a much smaller budget) and the combat got a bit irritating at times (improved a bit since the patch) but a rpg but the game was just wow

Mass effect while good i felt was a sci-fi version of oblivion, great storyline but the combat got boring after maybe the first "chapter", it also felt very polished and artificial rather than involving (maybe its just me)

The Witcher no question. I really can't stand console RPGs. I'm one of the few people in the world it seems that hated SW:KOTOR.
