New 'gas mask' hoodies 'intimidating'

Anyone who feels intimidated by youths wearing hoodies should probably look away now - it's the goggle jacket.

The latest incarnation of the hooded top, called a goggle jacket, appears to have more in common with a gas mask than designer wear, leaving just small plastic discs for users to see through.

Basic goggle jackets cost £70, although others have been sold by Armani and Stone Island for up to £600.
Marc Chapman, store boss at Arrival menswear in South Shields, Tyneside, said he was struggling to cope with demand for the new hoodies.

'They're fantastic, cheap and they're selling really well,' he added.

'They look really unusual but lock in plenty of warmth in the winter.'

Others say the tops are intimidating – an image helped by the manufacturer, which packs them in a bag showing a yob hurling a missile.

Bob Harrison of South Shields said: 'I'd be pretty intimidated if I bumped into a gang wearing them.'

A Northumbria Police spokesman said the jackets were totally legal. 'A hat, scarf and glasses combination could obscure someone's identity so there are no powers to stop people wearing these jackets,' he added.

Yeah anyone giving you hassle in one of those isn't going to be able to do much when you side step out the way and smack him in the head with your keyboard. He'll never see it coming.

Yeah I read this on the Metro this morning as well. I have to agree that people would look very intimidating (and stupid) in those. Its bad enouhg having gangs of chavs roaming the streets, but if they're going to be wearing gas msk style uniforms its going to be a bit scary for many people.

It's no different to somebody wearing a veil? I would be just as intimidated...but one is endorsed by religion - so therefore it's OK to wear it.

But Agreed, I would be nervous if met by a few people wearing them.

A friend of mine has one.

Tbh I don't so much find them intimidating as mush as think "nob", whenever I see someone with one actually zipped up.

Starting at £70 aint cheap!

and yep stone island have been doing them for ages.

That tit in the midle almost looks like a kkk member.

Quite possibly the most retarded piece of clothing ive seen to date.

They'd be useful for skiing I mean you wouldn't have to fork out money for a decent pair of goggles/shades when they've got em built into their jacket unfortunatly there is a downside you'd look like a complete ****
