fuel protests defo on saturday 15th @ 10.00

There's just no need for the amount of tax on fuel. Other countries can get by, we're not exactly a large country which needs all this extra revenue... it's just government wanting more more more! Speed camera's, petrol tax, road tax, congestion charging, toll booths... and the controversial pay by mile (not sure if this is still going ahead). Do we really need all of this charging??? Seems to me people just don't want to make a stand. Could you imagine how much pressue they'd be under if one day the majority of people just turned around and said "no". They'd have to listen then.

indeed, for every tax that is cut another one is increased/made up to compensate

But that's only because we do nothing. if we kicked up a fuss at everything. They would have no choice but to cut taxes and to cut spending. For a start throw out immigrants and force people on the JSA to work.

Prepare for a visit from the PC brigade.Although i totally agree with you.

why? It's about time us English challenged the government. This is one area I would like us to be like the French. Not just on fuel. We should be protesting about so much to the government. The government has got fat and stupid. And needs putting back in it's place. But us British just can't be bothered to do anything.

I've no problem with protesting if you have a decent cause. These people don't.

If the tax on fuel is reduced the Government will simply have to increase taxes in other areas to compensate.

What does it matter if fuel has the tax or it's added to income tax? (Apart from hurting everyone who doesn't use the fuel)

Not picking on you personally but this is quite a common opinion in this country. It is very defeatist and why the Government does and will continually get away with high taxation.

We can pull together and be very effective like with the poll tax it is just a question of motivation.

Throwing out immigrants would devastate our economy.

But that's the mind set we need to get over. The government need to reduce spending. Then it doesn't have to keep grabbing more and more money. It's got lazy which means it needs more money.

Sod the PC brigade I have a hefty keyboard to shove up there proverbial.

 not if you replace those workers with those who are claiming benefits.

How about the bloated NHS, get rid of the managers, bring back matrons and run it how it should be. How about cutting the massive public sector, of people building stuff that does not full fill the design brief, but some how is a success.

Which was replaced with the council tax. They will get your money 1 way or the other,it's just a matter of how.

If only it was as simple as 'cut taxes, stop spending, kick out immigrants' ay?

I'd love to see the state of this country if some of the people on this board were given any modicum of power in this government. Well, actually I wouldn't, i'd be long gone and laughing from afar as they destroyed it.

lol @ poll tax, has no one realised whenever any tax goes or decreases another increases?

Raise inhertance limit - people go yay and a few extra pennies are slapped on fuel duty but no one cares.

The sense of community does not seem evident, if it was we'd all be pulling together to lower a variety of taxes and injustices.

You mean how labour are destroying. Yes it really is that simple. The execution is harder and has to be done in a steady and controlled way. But it's certainly possible. The economy would be a lot better of. Less government expenditure and spending more would boost the economy.

Well, unfortunately, without handing over power of the UK to you, we're not really going to find out are we? :p

:p true.. But a lemming could do a better job of labour. Or any party. The first thing someone should do is bring in forced voting. This will negate small minorities shaping politicians minds. While the mass majority doesn't vote you can bet the small minority does. this skews politics to what ever the small minorities are pushing for.

Forced voting will just result in lots of spoiled ballots and people voting with absolutely no knowledge of what they are voting for, in addition to the current lot who either vote for who they always vote for or the ones they hate least at that moment in time :p

That's entirely another discussion though.

And this has nothing to do with government spending or it would be labeled as such. Say the protest was successful and the government took all tax off the fuel. Do you think they would curb spending or increase tax somewhere else?

We would need another protest to stop the increase elsewhere and so on. This has nothing to do with governmental spending.

You think the number of people on benefits could replace all the immigrants in the UK? Funny, I don't remember there being many doctors and nurses on the dole.

Oh, you probably mean unskilled workers. Same again, there is no way there is enough people on benefits to fill the gaps we have. And your solution is to actively force people into jobs they don't want? You'd be a hit in office.

Immigrants are a large reason that the economy is so strong.

Come off it. There was some research done into this and the findings were that each immigrant has to earn £28,000 or more before they stop becoming subsidised by our country and actually put money into our coffers.

I'll try and dig out the link for you unless someone else has it to hand. It was quite recent research.

I reckon just boot them all out & start again with a much firmer policy like our Australian friends! Then I reckon we should start putting the long term unemployed through some kind of community service. If you want state handouts then fine but you have to sweep the streets first! No slobbing it up during the daytime drinking cider and watching Jeremy Kyle!
