I saw a vid that showed how to upgrade my ps3 hard drive, looks simple enough but will any 2.5inch SATA HD fit in?

Does is need to be a certian RPM?

If i backup my current HD then load the data onto the new HD will all my account info be saved exactly so i dont have to re download warhawk for instance?

I ask as im thinking of selling my ps3 60gb on a popular online action site, and buying a 40gb and puttin the new HD into it.:)

Thanks in advance. :D

Check out the PS3 faq, should tell you all in there mate, your PSN games will have to be re-downloaded just go to store and find them in your download list. In the FAQ theres a link to the one i got in mine (160Gb), but all it has to be is a 2.5" sata 5400 RPM drive. All your account details will remain in the original PS3 as its stored in flash so record all your details and just use them to log on with. Dont forget to delete user accounts on the old one though. Hope that helps mate

WARNING. before you sell your PS3, goto account management and deactivate it. Otherwise it is still linked to your games, so you will lose one of the 5 licenses you get per downloadable game.

Regarding the backup of the data, wouldn't it be possible to connect the old and new drive to the PC and clone them using Acronis TrueImage or Ghost?

I always wondered what that was for - I've never activated my PS3 and it still plays stuff from the PSN. How can you deactivate it, if you never activate it?

Your ps3 activated itslef first time you used a downloaded PSN game. The screen you refer to still says "activate system" but the next screen (whcih I had never previously visited for fear of knackering the DRM which I did not understand), will say activate or deactivate.

If you deactivate all downloads wilol stop working for any master or child accounts.

Every person who has downloaded a game from your system has in effect activated one of your 5 licenses for that account (not game specific as I thought).

So I have shared with 4 people, them and me can now re-download any of my games. Only way to get a license back (I think). Would be for them to deactivate their console, delete all games downloaded from your account, then reactivate their system (so their own downloaded games work). All sounds confusing, whcih is fair enough as you shouldn't really be sharing the games, per se.

I may do some more tests when I get time, to understand the system better.

It is easy to do but sometimes the screws on the drive cage are INCREDIBLY tight.

I've done two. One was easy enough, the other one was absolute murder getting the screws off!

Make sure you have decent screwdrivers :)

Did you use the backup function of the PS3, how much data was it?

I did mine a few weeks ago had no problems except for the damn screws, they really are on way to tight even with the correct tools I still managed to thread one :(
