The B52 comes high in on my list - primarily because of the sheer size of the thing but secondly because it's estimated to be in service until 2040 - almost 100 years in the skies!

For modern developments I would say precision guided ordinance. Having a B52 ambling 40,000 feet above and able to deliver bombs with an accuracy of ~4 metres is pretty awesome.
