What do you want to backup?
If you want to make a Backup Image of your operating system (XP) and have either a Seagate or Maxtor HDD, you could use either DiskWizard or MaxBlast - which are basically Acronis TI 10 with a couple of insignificant features removed.
It you want to backup folders/files to another HDD then you could use:
Allway Sync
EZBack-it-up
GoodSync
Karen's Replicator
rsync
SyncBack Freeware
SyncToy
SyncToy 2

Everything that I have on my computer, FSX files ect
I use paragon drive backup. It makes a disk image of your whole hard drive. You can make a bootable CD which loads in to a paragon mini OS and unse that to restore the image to the drive if you need to. I've still got an image of my win xp backed up on my external drive from a few weeks ago when i changed to vista x64 just in case it all went wrong.
