Many people would back raising the alcohol age limit to 21

I know - a load of my friends did when I was younger - they seemed to enjoy hanging out on the street - never could understand it lol

But then I never really worried about it... I was always going to pubs with my uncle from when I was 14... playing pool and maybe having a shandy. Then started going with friends when I was about 16 and I never got out of hand (mainly because my friends were 2-4 years older than me).

So it's certainly no issue with some people, but it's down to the person unfortunately.

Hehe i played by first pool game when i was 4, my mother always used to take me pubs - :D

I mainly go the pub to play pool, we have a very good table too :p

So while im playing pool i have a few beers, much better than bricking windows off white cider :p

Anyway, upping it to 21 wont change a thing.

My theory is that the dicks who cause trouble don't really cause trouble because of alcohol, they just use it as an excuse. Random chavs on the street think they have an excuse for being ******s because they've had a couple of beers. Most of the time I bet they're barely even tipsy.

Exactly - it has nothing to do with the alcohol - if they're going to be like that - they're going to be like that - with or without it.

It's just the people they are.

Yeah exactly - it's a great thing to do.

My voice broke when I was about 5... so I always had a really deep voice for a child... when I was out with my mum & her friends... she'd send me up to buy the drinks lol!

maybe a little less alcohol damage to your brain would have enabled you to spell 'yeah' without sounding like a chav?
We're still waiting for you to tell us what happened in the USA when they totally banned alcohol. Perhaps you could use it to support your view?

LoL. Have you actually ever been outside to have a few drinks with your mates rather than staying in to play WoW or Guild Wars? Your views are completely ignorant of the everyday lifestyle of the majority in the UK.

There does seem to be a lot of people like that. I like going out for a drink, but I don't do it too often and I do take care when I'm out. I've suffered for not taking care when I was younger, but I still enjoy going out, as millions of other people do. As long as you don't cause trouble, don't drink so much that you can't function and respect other people I don't see what the issue is....

I guess he assumed, like everyone else, that the effects of prohibition were common knowledge.

But here you go - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Prohibition - that should cover what you need to know.

More specifically to the states - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Prohibition_in_the_United_States

Please try to actually contribute to the discussion rather than simply resorting to insults.

I knew exactly what happened. However it is pretty clear that he didn't though, and that supports me when I say he doesn't know what he's talking about, and he isn't really contributing if he is spouting ridiculous ideas that are clearly completely unworkable.

Fair enough & he was insulting people too

Well I'm 19 and while I don't drink every week, I do enjoy having a drink. Not allowing me to buy it will only stop me going out to clubs and bars which is less money for them and the brewery's. Plus I would just get my parents to buy me a bottle of southern comfort :D

I can't say I see much binge drinking down here in Newquay. Or much under age drinking. The people that do cause the problems are the 21+ people.

If I was over 21 I would obviously say it's a great idea because it would mean less younger people at clubs. I don't even know why I would think that. I don't have a problem with younger people. I think it's more me "asserting" myself.

If the age limit were to be raised would that also raise the limit to enter clubs etc?

Other countries seem to manage OK with a age limit of 16+ I guess? I know making it younger in the UK would be stupid because... well this is the UK so I don't think I need to explain the chav culture.

21 is too high, 18 is fine, imagine bing a student and not being able to drink!!!!

and I was only a student for a few months, imagine 3 years.

I don't think the 18 - 21s are the main issue either, there are plenty of older people not drinking responsibly and causing trouble,

only advantage is it might stop under 18s, although I drank from 13 and have been fine

Sounds a fantastic idea, 21 would be a much more suitable age, it would also reduce the HUGE amount of people mid 20's going to liver transplants cuz they got ratted younger and damaged themselves.

Are you seriously saying that the only reason they need liver transplants is because they were getting 'ratted' in licensed establishments from the age of 18? I don't think so, their problems start loooooong before the legal age is of any concern.

Yeah i agree!

Lets raise the driving age to 25 too! Infact lets make it illegal for anyone under 50 to purchase sharp objects!

It's because of people like some of you lot, Britain is quickly turning into such a nanny state.
