X1900XTX, what could be wrong with it?

Hi, well I got an X1900XTX for 25 inc, was selling as untested, so I can understand.

I put it in me PC, and fan spins to full, then nothing happens, dont know if system keeps booting or what, but screen dont come on, I'm just wondering, any idea what possibly could have gone wrong with it and anyway to repair it or something?

Could that be the problem?, It looks like someone has chipped it, allthough the phone camera cant shot it in detail

Its a PA0511.101NL Power inductor I think, any ideas on getting a replacement one of em?

i think you're right, somebody has chipped it

if you dont manage to replace it, ive got an X1900 XT 512mb that im looking to get rid of. Obv. cant sell in here so drop me an e-mail if you're interested.

You rekon thats the problem? If I was to replace that you think the card will be working or could that of nuked the core or memory?
 
ive no idea whats been done to it

but im fairly sure somebodys knackered it. That very much looks like a blob of solder on 1 of the chips. So somebody has volt modded it and gone wrong, or its been volt modded and gone wrong and they've removed the volt mod to sell it on.

cant comment on how to fix it though.
 
personally id say yes. I reckon your chances of fixing it are faily slim. You could possibly try and return it under warranty, but im guessing that wont work otherwise the person who sold you the card would have done it.

did you buy it because you needed it for a 2nd machine, or buy it because you fancied a challenge ?

and if you're a dishonest person, you could do what the dishonest person did to you, and sell it on as "untested"

I'll try sell it on as untested but I dunno, thats like conning someone and I dont like to do that, I could sell it as faulty/spares though?, what I am going to do though is contact connect 3d, register and see if I can get anywere, doubt I will but hey I wont know if I dont try.

I bought it as a backup so it would enable me to sell my 8800GT early for the next cards.
 
Definately sell it as faulty, you could probably point out the issue (well, the part you think needs replaced) and get close to £25.
Plenty of people buy broken stuff, the reference cooler can come in useful for RMA's, other random parts can also be salvaged.

Were shall I sell it? you think I could get that on MM? Shall I go post a price check on it?
 
I agree with the above. I have sold a few things on that auction site that were faulty, it suprised me at how much people were willing to pay for faulty goods.

Ummm, but if it goes for something like £5 I dont wanna sell it for that, I *** rather scrap it coz it *** cost more than that to post.

Is it possible for me to end it at any time? Then I might be ok with letting it start at 1p.

is it a blob of solder, or has the ceramin layer on the top of the chip cracked off showing a metalic inside?

ive seen a motherboard that failed after a thunderstorm (Electrical spike) and the controller chip for the network card looked like in the picture ( ceramic top layer cracked off one of the corners) :(

Yep like that abit of ceramic layer cracked off, dunno how its happened exactly, I hope its the problem, but anywayz I have packed it all up now and gonna put it on *** bay for £15 starting auction, starting at 1p I just cant see it getting far.
