Depends what you want. The 360 has some brilliant racing games, PGR4 and Forza 2 being the top of my list. However, the PS3 has Gran Turismo 5, and Ferrari Challenge (made by the same studio as F355 Challenge) which are shaping up very nicely. GT5 prologue really is a good game, and makes the final GT5 look very promising, and if your after a sim type game it wipes the floor on Forza 2, but for arcadey fun the 360 wins hands down.

To me, at present the 360 has a much stronger catalogue of games, but if your willing to wait then the PS3 is getting some stormers next year.

Driver 5
Gran Turismo 5
Metal Gear Solid
Time Crysis
The Getaway
Haze
Killzone 2

Those are just off the top of my head

As an owner of neither console (Except the Wii), I'm in the same position as you. Currently my vote is firmly in the 360 camp. Reasons:

XBOX Live (Superior multiplayer)

XBOX Live Arcade (And all the games that are on it!)

Forza 2
PGR 4
Halo 3
Halo Wars
Assasins Creed
Mass Effect
Gears of War
Perfect Dark Zero
BioShock
Oblivion
GR: Advanced Warfighter 1 + 2
Id go with the Xbox 360 for the above reasons too.

Perfect Dark Zero
WHAT?

As for Mass Effect I traded it in before completion, the texture pop ups and terrible frame rate just ticked me right off, I'm taking Ass-assins Creed back on PS3 tomorrow too for the same reasons, the frame rate is pathetic.

Agree with Jihad, i thought Mass Effect was massivly overated, sold it after the first week :(
That was the only time my 360 has been turned on for months.
For me the PS3 wins hands down.

My future consoles list is going to contain a PS3/New PS2slim edition and a 360.

All look good to own.

As for saying, For £200 more than a 360 arcade you get wireless and a Bluray player, remember you also get the PS3 exclusives, A pad that charges without the need for a play and charge kit, Free online play.

I mean surely adding £40 onto the console price for the live subscription should be done right? £10 for a play and charge kit.

But then again, People can have a silver acount for free, and maybe they don't want a play and charge kit, and maybe they want wired instead of spending the £30 on a 360 wireless adapter.

Nokkon, If you're advising people, Carry on. But saying £200 more for wireless and bluray, Isn't advice.

I wasn't going to post in this thread but.... wtf?! Get yourself down to specsavers, pronto.

In the my situation it looked better. ( LG 720P LCD set to 1080i, PS3 through HDMI 360 through component and VGA ) the football gameslooked better on the PS3.

Saying games on PS3 look better is a rather wide spread statement. Specific games works, but so many games on the 360 look amazingly better than the PS3. Saying games in general will result in comments, Like what you received :p

Depends on peoples views. If you want the 360 with all the bells and whistles then you need to budget for it on top of the console. I spont £280 on a premium, then added the following a day later...

Play and Charge Kit - £15
Wireless Adapter - £50
XBL Subscription - £40

thats a further £105 for extras on top of the console, and its extras that the console should have anyways IMO. Its obvious AA batteries wont cut it, so you need the play and charge kit, and many people, myself inclluded will need the wireless kit, and as for XBL, well you buy the console for XBL in most cases, so its not like these items may not be needed.

A PS3 with a game, blu-ray, HDMI cable and second controller can be picked up for £340, covering you for everything you may need, bar a headset, which you can get with warhawk anyways, or you can pick one up for a tenner.

A 360 premium comes in at around £270 with a 3 games and a second controller. , but adding on XBL takes that to £310, then adding a play and charge kit, and yet another battery increases that yet again by £25, to around £335, then if you so need it, you can add £50 for a wireless kit taking the 360s cost to £385 total, which is more than the PS3.

To me cost is nto an issue, as by the time you have added all your extras for the 360, your almost at the cost of the PS3 anyways, so you should buy the console purely on the catalogue of games that is out or is coming, as from my experience in retail, most people end up spend pretty much the same amount on either console.

Re-read what I said compared to what was quoted. Common sense should have prevailed.

£280 PS3, Blu-Ray drive.
£190 for Xbox Arcade + £109.99 for HD-DVD drive

Xbox + Drive is £20 more than PS3. So please tell what why I'm lacking common sense- unless the Arcade drive is HD-DVD so you don't need the £110 drive?

I found the graphics on PS3 noticebly better ( PS3 HDMI vs 360 VGA/component ) on the direct comparisons i had ( Fifa 08, PES 2008 and COD4 ) but i can't speak forthe elite that may have equal/better graphics to the PS3.

To quote myself, i didn't say anything about the PS3 graphics being better across the board, just on the games i had for both, i even mentioned this was not an elite and i can't comment on the 360 HDMI.

;)

Ah, Indeed, My mistake, I only saw Wrydo's quote. Well in that case, I'm in agreement. Although I can only say I've seen COD4 on both, But you are indeed right, It does look excellent on PS3.

What an idiotic comment.

Whilst he very badly over-exaggerated, I just cannot watch DVDs on the 360 as the console is annoying when a film goes quiet, as it can be interfering, and i also hate the way they have designed the control system when using the controller.

How come they don't design a 2 12cm fan radiator cooling system on a console? Surely better and quieter than slimline consoles with little buzzy fans.

Tempted to get PS3, loved Final Fantasy, Metal Gear Solid and Gran Turismo on the PS1.
