If you can't afford to stretch to a 512mb GT, then id get a 512mb 3850, 256mb is no good these days, 512mb minimum.

gt>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>3850

but as someone said, 512 does help a lot with games and such

Yeah the GT is a lot faster, but if the 512mb one is out of his price range, then id go for a 512mb 3850, the 256mb days are long gone now, shame the OcUK one aint in stock, as that ones only £111.

Id get rid of those prices to, as ive just realised they are competitors, which are not allowed.

I would get 512mb for even 1280x1024 now, when I was at a 1440x900 res I still got an 8800GTS 640 for piece of mind.

Am I right in assuming that 512mb is minimum for only games that come out recently?

I'm still using a 256mb 6800GT since ages, yet it still copes with what I've tried and use. Main usage is css, even tried the bioshock demo on settings high and it still was playable?

In a few months I might get another card, but I was j/w if I really need to?

not really, if you have a normal size screen like 17" 256 will be okay, you make it sound like its impossible to run with 256mb...which it isnt when you got a fast card like the 8800gt
