A supplier at work has just given me a 80gig ipod classic

Do i have to use I tunes or can i use it like my Iriver and what else do i need to know about using the Ipod

Cheers

I believe you can use Winamp and a few other programs instead of the dreaded iTunes!!!... (I'm hoping Santa brings me an 80Gb classic but don't want iTunes anywhere near my PC too!!)

You could also upgrade the firmware on the iPod to something like Rockbox, which will change the user interface, as well as allowing you to view the contents of the iPod as a removable drive, so you can just drag & drop from Explorer.

I like the idea of this but it would seem that a version for classics or 6g is out yet, stupidly i stuck Itunes on yesterday it really is awful

I'm not sure if that still works

WinAmp won't recognise either of my iPods any more, nor will they show up as removable drives like they used to, only iTunes seems to be able to access them...

edit - Seems you can, but not possible with my touch yet :(

Why does everyone hate iTunes?

Because it's slow, clunky and the UI is rubbish! I love my iPod, but iTunes is a disgrace of a program. And with the latest version I have to tell iTunes that albums from the same artist should be listed together, not sperately, it's rubbish!

See, oddly, I don't have any of those problems.

Mine is fairly quick (with around 30GB of music in it's library), easy to use and the UI is easy enough to use.

I prefer WinAmp purely because I can skin it though and I get bored easily so being able to make it all change every few weeks is nice.

I suppose it is fair to say the Mac iTunes > Windows iTunes, but I've never had any issues with it :)

Slow, bloated peice of crap software.

Realplayer, yes. iTunes, no.

I've got iTunes on my Mac, no issue. I've also got it on my home's XP, also not an issue and that's running on an old P4 Northwood with a bog standard 1GB RAM, a 90% filled HDD (thanks to home media and classic games)

I agree with Memphis, most of these comments are churned out by people hearing from other people's "opinion" and they just go yea... without real reasoning. Honestly, iTunes runs not much different from the WMP11, except i prefer how iTunes organise the library - and in a network full of other computers and their library of music, iTunes is a charm for sharing media, like a juke box, contributed by everyone within the network :)

iTunes organises music differently to how I want it to be organised.

I also would prefer to drag/drop using explorer windows - it works perfectly well for local hard discs, removable drives, memory sticks etc, so I'll be sticking with using it, and avoiding iTunes because of this reason.
