:(:( Was on will hill casino and lost money Tried to play catch up and until I realised I was 500 down. Made it back to 600 and withdrew the money to the bank account but you have no idea how ashamed/scared I was

If I had lost that money I would have been left with nothing. Not being able to pay bills or even get to work. I only get £921 a month so jesus thats a lot of money to me. So as soon as the money clears in my bank account I am closing the account.

I was so close to the edge. :(

Please guys dont let your gambling get out of hand or you could get burned. I thik I have scared myself enough to quit. I cant do it anymore. Im left a wreck thinking what could have been.

Im heading to bed as Im upset. But at least I go my money back and now know I need to stop.

Gareth

PS: No idea why Im writing this. Maybe just a warning to other people.

Blimey, count yourself lucky you got your money back, usually people aren't this lucky.

Blimey!.. your very lucky that you got that back.

I'm not a gambling person myself, only £5 max on a fruit machine with mates once in a few weeks.. or the very rare time I play the lottery.

Christ dude.. I'm sorry but you were crazy playing with that kind of money. Sounds like you are now aware how crazy you were. I'm glad you got it back though and realise how mad it was. Don't do it again is my advice!! If you really wanna have a gamble keep it to under a tenner! - A price that isn't gonna hurt too much if lost.. But if you can't control yourself at all with it then best to steer clear from gambling totally.

glad to see you got it back:) hey at least you didnt gamble a pub (sister made me watch hollyoaks...) :)

gambling is a mugs game :P

I know I'll stay off gambling I always lose lol.
Blackjack, Poker, slotgames, even for fake money I always end up millions in debt.
The ''games'' showed me the lesson, dont ''gamble''.
Play it for fun once with a tenner once a year or so: fine.
More: NO!

I worked as a croupier for a couple of years, there was one chap who owned a door firm. Every fortnight he'd withdraw the wages from the bank to pay his door staff, but first he'd come into the casino and gamble with it, hoping to make a tidy profit on other people's money.

As you can guess, eventually it all went wrong. He started losing badly, and began chasing his losses. £4,000 later, he's a total wreck. He went out, sold his car (pug 306GTI -only 18months old at the time) for £3,600! Came back in...and lost all that.

Watching a big guy like that (he works the doors himself) in such a state of stress, was quite disturbing.

He came in the next day to apologise for his behaviour. Turns out after he left the casino, he went to his girlfriends house, took any cash he could find and her jewelry, pawned it, and with about £800 he went to another casino.
He was incredibly lucky, as he managed to win £9,000 on blackjack during the night.

Thing is though, although that incident at first looked like it cured him... 8months later he was back to gambling hundreds at a time.

i remember waiting at the doors to leave a casino in nottingham , i was waiting for my mate to cash his chips in . anyway there was this couple next to me and he was saying to his missus how much money do we have left and she said nothing all we have left is the food money. so he said give it to me you know i always win . true story the moral is don't gamble what you can't afford and secondly the house will always win eventually, the longer you stay the more chance the house has got

I don't think many of us need a warning on not spending every last penny on gambling knowing we actual have lives to pay for.

It's just /stupid/ plain and simple.

But i'm glad you've stopped, that does sound like a problem, if you want to gamble why not try something a little smaller first.

Each to their own, but I've always taken the view - some would say cynical, but I'd say realistic - that when it comes to gambling the odds are heavily stacked in favour of the casino, the bookie or the owner of the fruit machine and so have avoided it like the plague.

I do understand the adrenaline rush that gamblers must get when they're winning, but the consequences for those that don't know when to stop - as in Teknobry's example - can be horrific ...

I used to do quite a bit of football betting online, only £5 a match day but it soon added up.

Started on the roulette and poker too, so £5 lead to £10 and £10 to £20.

I remember looking at my bank statement one month and added up all the transactions and it came to about £200 (after adding back on withdrawels ). I was shocked 'cos I could have used that money to do something worth while with rather than just frittering it away.

After this I closed the account and I've never gambled online since.

It's a good warning. I don't do gambling or drugs (other than alcohol) as I kno I've got a slightly addictive personality. I don't even want to know how to play poker et al because I kno I would just want to play it all the time. Especially if I had some nice wins.

Gambling nearly ruined me - I was very lucky to come out with a small profit, but I had about 80% of my bank balance (and we're talking thousands here) on the line at one point.

I posted a thread about it a short while ago. I don't gamble any more, but am considering going to a couple of GA meetings.

If anyone wants to talk about their experiences, I'm always up for an e-mail conversation.

until I realised I was 500 down. Made it back to 600

wth?

I mean, you were damn lucky to get your money back and then some, but why not stop when you got back to zero, back to not having lost anything? carrying on to 600 was just pushing your luck!

Good luck to you, I have a few friends who gamble a fair bit - online/on fruit machines etc - and I sometimes find myself wanting to tell them to stop wasting their money.. so fair play to you :)
