Motherboard Costs

firstly make a list of all features you want with the MB, such as wi-fi, raid, no of sata ports, no of ide ports, sli or CF, which cpu you want etc, then we can help you chose the best choice.

the more expensive MBs usually just have more features, if you dont need them it may not be worth payign for them

Ah I see..

I want an Intel Quad Core.. needs to be able to hold 4GB (which I would think is standard now) wi-fi would be an added bonus..

4 Sata 2 ports (again standard I think) PCI - express.. obviously..

I'd like the option to over clock but with a board that will return to working settings if I go too far..

on board sorround sound would be easier than buying a card for now...

As many USB ports as possible

Cheers

Whats the gain in the real world normal to pro ?
more features & a richer BIOS.
uguru
2nd physical x16 PCI-E slot
2 eSATA
2nd gigabit LAN
100% solid caps
onboard power & reset buttons plus external clearCMOS switch
different heatsinks

It is generally the case that the more you pay the better you get but it isnt allways the case that you cant get the same cheaper once its "old tech"
I am not saying the p35 board is old but to be fair its allmost 2 or 3 chipsets old now so boards that cost around £130 on release can be matchd feature and quality wise by a £100 board now.

*EDIT*

After looking at the p35 section id rather have the abit of gigabyte flavour over the msi p35 diamond wich retails for more so i guess you dont allways get more for your money, but thats just me showing distaste at MSI products from personal experiance.

lol.. thats confused me even more...

What would you look for in a motherboard ??

Good recommendations on here for overclocking and cooling. Everything else is variable as I don't need much and most boards now have shedloads of USB headers, RAID etc. But what you can't see from a spec sheet is how well the chipset is cooled or how well it overclocks. You get that from recommendations on here.;)

Right ok I see...

So if I wanted to clock my quad to say 3.1 ... what would you suggest ?
