Received my new N82 today... frst impressions...

Hell yeah the placement of that media key sucks like a crack ho after her next fix, its a shame you cant reassign or disable it. This phone does have its niggly flaws, ill be the first to admit it, but ive realised the perfect phone doesnt exist, and this is as close as im going to get in this gen of phones. The video quality is truly fantastic even in dim lighting, and the audio pickup is very clear. I was playing all the ones that ive taken this holiday and everyone was really impressed, its really pushed the boundaries for quality and convenience. I really couldnt be without this phone now! :)

And how is the sound on the videos, like if you were somewhere noisy or busy, would it still give you a decent quality clip?

had mine for best part of a week, im coming from an XDA orbit and finding it so far trouble free. 1st hour or so was spent fumbling around with what seems like alien controls.

now i just want to be able to remove some pictures from the gallery without deleting them ? is this possible ?

other then that its working good the keys are very useable even with my tree trunk fingers.

My wife has the n95 which is apparently similar to this and i personally think mine is more useable. cameras tbh also look the same quality wise not sure if theres meant to be any different.

Also one more thing had no issues setting my phone up to use my wireless Lan network whereas the wifes phone kept loosing the wep key which was really annoying.

Seems like a mint phone atm for me.

I still keep getting reboots... happened to me today while not doing anything in particular. You experienced this at all HTML?

Im sold!

Contract is about to end with O2 at the end of Jan 08.

Im thinking of getting the Sim Only package from O2. The £20/m, 400 mins and 1000 texts seems very good. However, I dont like the O2 internet MB allowance.

Sorry but Im a little lost with the X Series Silver business... Could anyone explain?

Is that through with O2?

Do you have to phone up and haggle with them for it?

For an extra £5p/m that seems a bargin!

Three is a little more expensive for the contract but the internet is cheaper.

O2 will probably work out the same. Looking at spending less than £30 p/m if I can help it.

A bonus with O2 would be that most of my friends are on O2 contracts, so the 'other' mins I can use on the people who arn't and landline phone numbers.

Using my N73, which is practically on its last legs, I only use around 100mb or there abouts on mobile internet so the O2 deal would suit me.

Yea, thats my point really. Its a lot better this way.

If another network come out with a better deal then you can easily switch over without too much hassle.

Just waiting to pay my last O2 bill then its off to one of the rolling contract sims and a N82 :D

Is anyone running this phone on the 3 network?

If so - does it work?

Also - did you buy it from ebay?

If so - can you recommend a reliable ebay seller id?

Many thanks

G

hi richdog.

thanks for your excellent review - you are probably the reason i am after this phone.

i have read the thread - but i just re read it to make sure no one has mentioned if they are running the phone on the 3 network and unless im being thick no one has??

i only ask as there is a listing on ebay where the seller specifically states the phone will work on all networks except 3.

thanks

I'm on three mate, just bear in mind they don't "officially" support ANY phone that has not been provided by the three network, so if you ask how to set up some feature on the N82 eg: mobile modem they will tell you they cannot help as the modem is not supported, so you may have to lie and say you're using an N73 and work it out from there. Customer/tech support are in effect worse than useless, close to reprehensible even. The call centres are ALL indian and ALL of the help staff are so overbearingly, nauseatingly polite that you want to reach through the phone and strangle them after being thanked profusely every 5 seconds. If you ask them a semi-complicated question that isn't on the sheet in front of them they will crash and burn, and the only way forward is to demand a call back from a manager, as they are generally a bit better in sorting things out. However 9/10 you will be biting back the choicest swear words and insults in an effort to remain calm.

If you can't tell I really love Indian call centres, mass outrsourcing was a wonderful idea.

lol - quality rant mate - i've been with them since aug 2006 so recognise all of that.

i am getting an n95 on upgrade tomorrow from an n70 so the plan was to flog the n95, envirofone about 5 old handset we have lying around and then buy the n82 from ebay.

i still cant decide what to do. i am torn between going for the n82 and keeping the n95 and debranding it to get the firmware upto v20 - i have read the n95 is a much better phone then.

anyway - thanks for the confirmation it works on 3 and thanks again for a great thread.

happy new year

Geoggy

Remember the regular N95 is underspecced compared to the N82... the N82 has much more RAM, a MUCH better flash/video function, and it's also candybar format which in my opinion = win.

Happy new year to you too. :)

Have just spoken to O2 because I can upgrade from anytime now onwards, they said the N82 was due in today, hasnt arrived from what he could see but I can phone back tomorrow and if its in stock, they will give me a price on how much it will cost me etc etc.
Just letting people know really that they will be stocking it any minute.
