Mate of mines hard drive has just died, and hes got 5 years worth of pictures etc that he has now lost. Can anyone suggest a way to recover it please.

doesn't work at all?

could wrap it up in waterproof cover, chuck it in a freezer for an hour or so, take it out and plug back in

if it works, copy things off as fast as you can (disable antivirus)

or could send it away and pay about £100-500 to get it all recovered

He said this I was on the net, it froze (I assume the hard drive keeling over) and that was that.

Can I ask why you put it in the freezer?

I think that if the heads have frozen in place then the spell in the freezer might get them going. I have tried it and it did enable the drive to work for about 15 min.
If you don't mind paying the GetDataback for NTFS is great.
