And before you assume there were people being careless/stupid with them, had my dad and a friend lighting a few of the boxes of about 40 at the back of the garden. We were all standing just outside of the house (about 20m away) and one of the boxes started shooting a few off towards the house along the ground. Was pretty scary stuff, one hit me in the stomach and another hit a friend of mine on the side of the head. Felt a bit winded at the time, more annoyed that it ruined my top though :(
Have kept the box to take it back to the shop and show/warn them about it.

Everyone else have good NY fireworks?!?!

well lighting explosives is always risky isnt it, be thankful yopur not injured and move on

Sounds like you have been lucky, even though you say that you were being safe with them any shop you tell wont believe this.

This is why you don't have your boxes of "unused" fireworks anywhere near where you are launching them from.

Wow man, you okay?

Ive been hit on the foot by one, nearly swept me off my feet, they dont tickle either, foot was burning up after!

Hows your friend?

Hahahaha, BOOM HEADSHOT!

Let me be the first to say: OWNED!

Although i laughed at this be sure to make sure the OP and his friend are okay first!

You're supposed to take the fireworks out of the boxes (and preferable keep them in a sealed metal container) and light the fireworks themselves, not the boxes full of fireworks.

pffttt! One of my cousins were hit bonfire night about 2 years ago, burnt a hole straight through her pontcho. She must have been about 5 at the time. My advice to you "Man the **** up!"

No, there's one single fuse you light and then the box is supposed to "be in control", if you like, of the order they fire up.

We're both fine, my friend had to go to hospital to have her head bathed but she'll be ok.
Didn't explode when they hit, just bounced off then exploded on the floor.

We've kept the faulty box, can see just from looking at it that some were firing out of the side instead of just up in the air.
