CoD 4 graphics...

So I got the one game that I had been avoiding handed to be as an Christmas present from my gf. CoD flaming 4.

I've been avoiding it because I tire of it's stupidly scripted gameplay. I hate scripted magical damn grenades that appear at my feet...not one but four of the buggers.

I hate AI enemies that spawn in my face and poke me in the eye so I die. Well you all get my drift. This is a whine thread!:rolleyes::cool:

Don't tell me about dullard, ultra tiresome vet mode either. I've done CoD2 (hardest imo) and am stuck on the latter levels on CoD 3 because some pleb can't design a map with enough checkpoints.

Don't tell me about Multiplayer either. I've no interest in playing with 10yr old yanks who insist on telling me who won the damn war when they weren't even conceived. Besides Live is fubar'd.

TO THE POINT FFS I HEAR YOU ALL SCREAM!

Ok...When CoD4 arrived I ignored it and played Mass Effect to the death. I heard all these gamers saying that CoD4 had the best graphics (lols) on the 360. So over Christmas I played my copy...and finished it in two sittings - in total 4hrs.

Now am I going blind here, because the graphics are frankly crap. What I see is an overhauled CoD 3 with different weapon's and very similar concepts e.g plant a flamin bomb on a tank and run forest gump style. The first few levels looked utterly drab and I actually checked my TV to make sure dynamic contrast wasn't on by accident.

I admit it got better by the time I reached Paprika, but overall I just didn't feel this was anywhere near a 'great' game. It felt like a minor update.

Yes, I'm in a mood. First day back at work and the damn Xmas tree next to my desk has fallen over knocking my cup o coffee onto a few invoices.

No interest in the multiplayer? That's pretty much what the game is designed for and you're missing out on an amazing experience. You should play in a party with the guys from here, the only annoying 10 year old Americans will be at the dangerous end of your gun! :D

How do you know CoD2 is the hardest? You haven't finished 3 on vet and haven't bothered with 4 on vet! :p ;)

i think it looks better on PC but it still isnt a bad looking game on 360?

I just completed it yesterday (on pc though) and it was one of the best single player games ive played in ages, even though it was short, the ending was great if a bit sudden, when you shoot that guy in slow motion. Then the plane section at the end was a good suprise.

I agree i hated all them americans when i used to play CoD3 online, and ended up having a big arguement with them.

I thought the graphics were excellent, you do have the 360 on a HD tv ;)

MP usually irritates me, but it is a good laugh and easier than I thought with COD4

Hurrraaahhh!

Another person that also shares my thoughts!!!

Replace all the weapons with WW2 ones and you could be fooled it was CoD2 :p It doesn't necessarily look bad, it just looks a bit dated.

Well it is called Call of Duty 4. What makes you think it should be any different just becuase of the time zone? War is still the same, we have nukes in this one though, nightvision, laser guided missles etc. It's not really the same is it?

I mean the gameplay dude, it hasnt change since its inception on the PC. I wish gameplay would have change a little bit. The gameplay seems date.

How could you change the gameplay to the extent that it is still a FPS but different from MoH and the ilke??

If you changed it to more of a sneaking shooter, it would then be slated for being too much like Rainbow6, if you changed it to 3rd person people would cry Gears of War... to strategic and it would be like Full Spectrum Warrior..

I suppose to improve it though you could have a relatively open ended gameplay, where you could do the levels in many ways... instead of always being directed to a scenario, whether by talking to other characters or by visual choice.. maybe different objectives depending what you fancy doing.

Only thing that's let me down with COD 4 so far, is that it doesn't have a cover system. I've got so used to having that in games coming out now that you really miss it when you want to peak around a corner.

It does have a cover system... you just duck behind a wall or car, as long as its not on fire.... ;)

Lol, you can't change the gameplay of Call Of Duty, otherwise it wouldn't actually be Call Of Duty. I do however think IW should maybe create a new sort of game, with a different name and setting, perhaps a futuristic type WW3 (with no nukes).

True... but I mean more like:

- Mass Effect
- Rainbow Six
- Ghost Recon
- Gears of War

There are parts in single player so far where I can see it being much more useful, such as when you are in the silo and have enemies in two corridors with you in the middle.
Also the enemies in single player can use cover much better and can also fire their weapons blind while hidden.

I definitely feel the same about the graphics. A lot of it still reminds me of COD1, like the fully 2D washing lines and windows, ugly textures, no physics.
Instead of fixing these things, they just put some shiny effect on everything to cover it up (although it does look nice).

i've played over a 1000 games and only ever came up against a couple of 10 year old yanks :)

Best MP game i've played in a long time

yeah i have to admit, whilst the weapon models and character models look great (and seem shiny lol), the textures of the terrain etc is pretty dated now. The next one will need a whole new engine.

I think call of duty 4 shows the strength of infinity ward - this game is on 3 different platforms, performs amazingly on all 3, looks excellent, and most of all is a whole lot of fun. Yes the single player is short, but anyone will tell you that call of duty is by large a multiplayer game, and cod4 brings the fun of the pc games (cod1 and cod2) to xbox live and psn network.
