Just installing now....is there only one lead that plugs into the motherboard....being the lead that is connected to the fan controller - im checking because this lead only has 3 holes, whereas there are 4 pins on the motherboard.

There are 4 pins on the motherboard but u **** find that there's the normal plastic bit that sticks up behind just 3 of them to guide you in just fine :)

Incidentally, i found that my motherboard delayed the powering up of the fan a little so used a convertor to power it from the PSU directly.
 
It took me ages to install one of these, the nuts wouldnt tighten had to use pliers in the end, was as if they had the wrong thread and i did use the right back plate before anyone suggests that.

Hopefully you didn't stick the backplate to the mobo, or you'll have even more fun taking it off :D

Oh dear oh dear. Go to Google and search for 'Remove Tuniq Backplate', its fun reading :D

Those things weld like superglue to your mobo, its a frikkin mare to get it off. Its better to just leave the protective paper on the sticky bit and hold it in place while you bolt it on.

Be prepaired to break out the hairdryer and start praying when you come to remove it ;)

Other than that they are awesome HSFs.

I think that is a new "feature", I had the same thing the first time it booted up and the fan didn't spin a friend of mine and me were like OMG NOOOOOOOOOES IT"S GONNA KILL THE CPU... but it seemed it's a new cooling feature to blow as much as "needed". As the CPU got hotter it started to spin, faster and faster ;)

Hex, I'm going to be using a tuniq tower for my 6600 (first build). Would you advise bolting it without removing the paper, or if instructed by the manual to remove it, will there be any side effects by not removing it?

edit: I'll probably follow this advise:

never peel all of the self adhesive pad top layer off, usually make cuts in the corner so that only 2-3mm of the sticky pad are showing which is usually enough for it to stick to board to help with the mounting, the backplate is then easy to remove.

:o I thought when I was peeling of the protective sticker this may be a problem later on. But I was too busy doing it to think about it.

Not a problem atm, although now need to do some reading to find the most sucessful way of removing.

Yup that works, or if you can't get it to twist pull up one of the corners and the rest usually peel off.

Best thing to do though is either just mount it with the paper still on and hold it in place, or as you said earlier just take a bit of the paper off on the corners so its just enough to hold it in place, then it is far far easier to remove. :)
 
Was the worst experience ever yesterday for me to install this HSF, literally took me hours and i am still not sure that all the screws are in properly as i could nto get my hand in to do the corner one :/ visions of it working loose slowly and then destroying my machine :P

I recommend getting a heatsink that isnt the size of a football but thats just me and my inexperience i guess lol
