The 'Guess the Riff' thread - Non-Guitarists Welcome!

Its just through a toneport, so you are quite right yes! I selected the tone as I thought it sounded good for the first riff... didn't really think about the others... :o

Nah mate all sound really good. Much better job than i can do. pod/Toneport can produce some lovely rhythm tones. I have always been disappointed by their dirty leads and cleans though. The cleans are too weak and the dirty, well whenever there is only 1 or 2 intervals present in the signal the processing unit just seems to pack up and do a really half assed job at coloring the note.

Anyway, OT, you got me beat! Only one i could guess was the first.

Well, thank the toneport, it was just a preset with the tone on my guitar tuned down a notch. I actually think some of the lead tones you can get are excellent, considering the price of the software.

Well since you have revealed you can record you have no choice but to contribute at some point ;)

Must say it is a little difficult to distinguish between each riff, considering the tones are exactly the same. If they were in a similar context to the originals, it'd be a little easier. While Line6 products are awesome for musicians on a budget or musicians that live in a terraced house, making it impossible to crank a tube amp, i have to say there's nothing like the real thing. The "Faceplate" patch on the Pod xt rack, for example, sounds absolutely nothing like the Mesa Recto i have, that it was based on. BUT, its great for headphones at night, quick demo's e.t.c I agree about pods/line6 products being excellent for solo's, they seem to cut throught the mix, the way a solo should.

P.S I can record too, haha. Will contribute at some point, perhaps.

Tone rant
I'm very aware it sounds different from the originals. It still remains very obvious what the riffs are from, if you know the songs of course!

That was horrid, waste of 1:20 :( learn how to use your amp pls
You totally missed the point of the thread...

I selected the first preset I though might be remotely 'all round' for all 5 riffs. All are satisfactory for guessing the riff. The thread isn't supposed to be a display of tone or musicianship, so all comments regarding such will just make the poster look like a total prat.

is 2. prodigy - break and enter?
Very very Close :D

sorry 2 is their law.
Correct! Wasn't sure if anyone would get a riff from a dance song :D

Riffs 4 and 5 left to guess.... 4 is distinctly easier than 5, due to it being more popular (and a couple of mistakes whilst playing the 5th... shame because its the easiest to play :p).

lol so far Ive recognised a grand total of.... one of the riffs, the last one dmpoole played. lol

I will try and do some but im in DropC so might struggle to pick well known riffs, still can give it a go.

#5 on the first one is Dance Commander by Electric Six

#5 on dmpooles is 2112 by rush
