Devil May Cry 4

I may buy a PS3 before it comes out, but If I dont I will buy this for my 360. Really should get my hads on DMC 3 though, I've played 1 & 2 and thought they were awsome, non stop action :D.

Just listened/watched this review thing from 1UP who are one of the few who have played both the 360 and ps3 versions supplied by Capcom.

http://www.gamevideos.com/video/id/16558

They say that the ps3 one "looks better" side by side. Also the PS3 one will allow you to a do a 5Gb install to the HDD to remove all loading times. Apparently there was also tearing on the 360 version, but It is too early to say for certain what will be the final outcome. I know a ps3 demo is planned before game release, so I am sure there will be a 360 demo as well for dual format owners to try before they buy.

This one is definitely a ps3 purchase for me (provided I get enough time to finish dmc3 before the new one comes out!!)

Edit: The 1UP guys reckon it out does NJ2 already! (Something about DMC4 having real time weapon switching unlike NJ1/2 although I don't know if this is one of those PS3 jokes or not).

Thanks for that 1up link rp2000. I've not watched one of those in ages... nice to be able to stream it from the PC, and play through the PS3 to the TV too... that WMV/DivX update was long awaited.

Anyway, that's not why I say thanks, as much as I very much enjoyed the section about Dark Sector. I'd pretty much made my mind up to ignore that one.. I can't imagine why... after seeing it on that 1up show, I'm gunna go hunt me a cheap (as possible) pre-order tomorrow, to join the burnout paradise one I made today. I notice it's out early Feb in the UK, but March in the States, so there goes my order it early, and get it cheaper from the States usual procedure. ;p

Great, I've downloaded the latest 1up show now too, which says it has GT5p in it, so I'll watch that tomorrow.

I was that surprised to see Dark Sector there, I may start watching these every... well, every however often they come out ;) 500mb is a fair download, but thankfully, their servers were quite fast :)

V1N.

"Capcom just revealed that they really want to make DMC4's Collector's Edition special, so special that they will be randomly distributing 100 CE tins autographed by non other than DMC4's (and Resident Evil 4's) producer Kobayashi-san. The super rare CE autographed tins will be distributed secretly and randomly among normal distribution channels making it one of the rarest video game CE goods to date. But even if you don't come across an autograph, know that the CE still packs some pretty "okay" goodies including volume one of the DMC anime, digital art book, making-of features and a soundtrack. Now get to finding those golden tickets, erm, autographed tins fanboys. Your DMC fanboy'ism is at stake!"

That's excellent! Though it doesn't tell you whether it's Asia/America only.

It is USA only (I think capcom's blog confirms this), 50 x 360 CE and 50 x PS3 CE.

I like the idea of adding extra to the package in a "Golden Ticket, Charlie Bucket way". But it is just another crappy extra that most people will not care about and just buy the standard edition. Just a ploy to get most people to upgrade to the CE.

I think I will just get a normal edition.

I was listening to a podcast today and it mentioned the DMC4 install on the PS3 version, It's a 5GB install, takes around 25mins to do when you first start up the game, but once its done it's done, and appears to make a pretty decent difference to load times.

When compared to the 360 some loading times were around 19 seconds on the 360, and 6 seconds on the PS3 for the same level/cutscene. Typical load times averaged at 3 times faster on the PS3 when compared to the 360.

Personally I'm happy to wait 25mins to install the game if it makes a considerable difference to the load times.

25 minutes to install? Blimey.

But as you say, if that's what it takes to reduce loading times then I'd be happy with that.

What are load times like without doing the install?

Edit: I have the limited edition version pre-ordered for £27.99, bit of a bargain I thought.

As far as I know, I think your forced to do an install on the PS3 version, because of the Blu-Ray stream rate. However its just a one off thing so as far as i'm concerned its all good.

Yeah, it's mandatory. I think all PS3 games should be installed on the console. Sure it takes up space, and those with a lot of games will use up their 20GB and 40GB before they know it - but it helps with performance, and I think if developers knew their games had mandatory installation, they'd take full advantage of it instead of catering to the lowest common denominator.

It's also a testament to how slow the blu-ray drive is as well though. The Xbox 360 version only takes 3-4 more seconds to load a typical level.

No denying that mate, blu-ray has sucky read speeds, but the plus point of the PS3 is that every single one of them has a built in HDD, and we all know HDD is faster than optical media, so they have that advantage, just wish more dev's would remember that.

I still think it's a shame 360 developers just don't say 'HDD required'

I know there have been two games I think that have needed a HDD and a few benefit from having the drive there for caching but it'd really help if they could do a similar thing on the 360 and have games perform some type of install to help performance.

Ah well, I doubt it's going to happen anytime soon.

Be nice if the 360 devs at least gave the option of installing or not, that way for those with HDD's they would see an advantage.

There's a bunch of other tricks to work around the slow read speeds, the Oblivion duplicate data trick gets mentioned quite a lot in conversation on this topic for example.
