The title sounds menacing - "Iran boats 'threatened US ships'. Until you read on and discover the Iranians were in speedboats and the yanks were in a Destroyer, a Cruiser and a Frigate :o

Apparently, the Iranian commander told them ""I am coming at you. You will explode in a couple of minutes," :p

Made me chuckle anyway...

haha thats nuts, what did they think they would get for doin that ?

Maybe that was there intention, most likely anyways, to start a war with the usa, prob some minority people that want war to happen :(

suicide boats>?

Indeed - it wouldn't be funny when £xbillion worth of military ship, equipment and aircraft get sunk because they laid back. He did his job and had every right to shoot if they make threats like that.

For instance, it's like standing outside Tesco's and shouting to the security guard - "I am going to steal that, I am coming to get it". The obvious reaction would be to prepare the security for me stealing it...

:)

Of course. But this was slightly different...

How so? They are constantly preached to that the big evil suicide bombers are no longer in Iraq but Iran. So when some boats come flying towards them saying they are going to blow them up, they may not be inclined to take it as humor. Possible the Iranians were seeing how fast they could push them, or how fast they get their Seamen into position

Indeed, but parking your Navy in such a way is meant as nothing less than a show of force. To threaten those that you wish to. How would the US react if Russia parked a couple of subs by the US?

the US navy is welcome by everyone in the area apart from Iran i don't see a problem.

The US navy may be welcome by some of the governments in that area, but not the people. Regardless, the people of Iran and the Iranian government no doubt feel threatened by a large naval force of a country that is on the other side of the World.
