GordyR's Beginners Guide to Bodybuilding

Salted peanuts aren't exactly good for you but as long as you don't eat too many you'll be fine. That's to do with the high salt content though and nothing to do with the fat. Most fats are essential for good health.

Nuts aren't really the best though, unless still shelled. I believe once shelled the fats begin to oxidize? Not good.

Another to watch for are most nuts are very high in Omega-6, something the western diet is already too high in.

What do you mean by shelled?

I'm constantly hungry and dare not eat much because I'm scared its all got too much fat in, I have packs of egg fried rice, there is doritos, cheese, lots of milk, bananas, bread, butter, tinned stuff like beans, I do like beans mixed with plenty of brown sauce, cant help its all bad food and because I have quite a big appetite sometimes I cant stop eating :\.

Still in their shells.

You should be more worried about refined carbs than fats.

refined carbs? What food have those?

That's a start ;)
hardly any though. flax/linseed is a better option.
In that regard you're right. I certainly wouldn't eat walnuts for their O-3 content though they do contain just as much as salmon (3g per 100g) so not too bad, though they also contain 30g of Omega-6...

I don't rate flax/linseed anymore. I believe that unless you grind it yourself chances are it will have oxidized and turned rancid before you eat it. Also its Omega-3 (ALA) has a poor conversion rate to EPA/DHA, something like 3%.

I prefer to get my Omega-3's from fish.

can you eat the seeds?
Taken from here: http://www.flaxcouncil.ca/english/index.php?p=faq
Which is better for me, whole or ground flax seed?

Ground flax seed provides more nutritional benefits than does whole seed. That’s because flax seeds are very hard, making them difficult to crack, even with careful chewing. Grinding flax seeds breaks them up, making them easier to digest when eaten. Then the body can profit from all that flax goodness.

If whole flax seeds remain unbroken, they may pass undigested through the body, reducing the nutritional advantage of eating flax seed in the first place

So basically things made with white flour have refined carbs?

A very basic way of looking at it is anything white, that's rice, bread, sugar, etc

I loved white bread aswell, guess I'll just stick to brown, is it fine eating lots of brown bread?

What should I look for in the incredients and nutrition information to be sure its fine what I'm getting, just white flour and high carbohydrate?

My online shopping knowledge is a little poor it seems. I have a power rack (800lbs tested) and I want a heavy, strong bench to go with it. No racks on the bench etc just the bench itself, does anyone know where I may be able to find an item such as this? Looking for around 800lbs tested as well. Thanks in advance :)

Can anyone recommend a workout for a beginner to the gym (aka me), what I would like is to get some muscle really (I am a very skinny person, but I am however fairly fit as I have been running since I can remember), I am new to this so go easy on me please if I sound like a total idiot :)

I would like to join the UOTC when I go to uni in sept, so i dont want to be laughed out the building when it coems to doing things such as pressups, so am starting now. Thanks for you help.

Stick to something pretty basic and hit each muscle group twice a week. You'll make great gains being a beginner if you sort your diet and show a bit if dedication if you do this. Usually biggest mistakes beginners make is too much volume, there's no need to hit every muscle from every angle!

Just stick to compounds like bench press, dips, military press, chins, squats, deadlifts, rows and you'll be fine.

Forget crap like concentration curls and kickbacks and anything else that requires the use of 5kg pink DB's :D

Oh and read this sticky ;)
