eta on 3870 x2?

seriously tom, as with will and loadsa, you've all of a sudden dropped out of the ATi driver program where you said the COMPLETE opposite of what you just said, for the ENTIRE last year.

ATI still offer once a month drivers thats what they've always done.

nvidia DON'T offer two sets a month, they offered about 42 sets during crysis month, because they couldn't get it right, in the previous year before that, there were 4/5 main sets of drivers of which about 1 offered remote stability on most games on vista 64.

Oh god here we go. For your information I'm still in the Driver Program :). I have various other machines with ATi hardware. I'm not one or the other :).

*Awaits more bashing after all I try to do is help*

really wish you and loadsa would shut up tbh. at no point in there did i say the 3870 was faster than a 8800gt.

I really wish you would shut your gob too I only said one thing and you come down on me like a ton of bricks whats your problem?

And for your information I was never in the driver program. What am I saying that is the oposite? I thought the 2900XT was a piece of **** and I tried it for myself, does this make me want to hate ATi forever? IMO ATi has a good card coming from all we know atm.

really wish you and loadsa would shut up tbh. at no point in there did i say the 3870 was faster than a 8800gt, at NO point. as per usual you and loadsa purposefully mis interpret everything everyone says and have a go at ati. theres fanboy-ism, and then theres just being those irritating people in life that insist on arguing in that style. mis quoting, misinterpreting, saying something then saying you never said it, its boring.

only numbers i showed were the 8800gt taking a bigger performance hit from AA than the 3870 did, in oblivion at least. because, during the last year or two several of the bigger internet review sites have all gone massively advertising heavy, all have massively changed their benchmarking and few of them do normal accurate nice tables of performance figures. there is overall very very little AA performance analysis on the 8800gt/gts reviews. why they'd choose oblivion to show AA performance, and nothing else baffles the best of us. anandtech went from one of the top and most accurate sites on the net, to one of the most horrific ad laden word ad click driven crap sites out there.

nvidia's previous releases all showed everything in aa, non aa, low mid and high res. now we get a very limited game set, a very limited resolution set and next to no AA performance viewing.

i'm a little fed up by the 3870's AA performance being questioned in comparison to nvidia's of late, because, theres just no real benchmarking to show that.

also to try to compare a pair of 3870's to a pair of 8800gtx's is rather silly, £50 more? if you went and bought the cheapest in or out of stock cards in the uk today you could get a pair of 3870's cheaper than the cheapest 8800gtx single as of today. £264 vs over £500, yeah, £50 more.

I would go nvidia right now if they could manage, well over a year after release to get a 64bit driver working stably. i'd take a 5% performance hit for stability in all games, i simply can't bank on that with vista +nvidia. ati i might get lower performance, for a proportionally cheaper card, and i can bank on stability with vista 64bit, its as simple as that.

i can buy 4 3870's cheaper than 2 x 8800gtx aswell, would really like to see some reviews done on 4 way crossfire, performance and stability.

use in debating anything sensible with certain forum members in this section.

they have their minds made up and seem to do nothing else but pimp NV like they're majority shareholders. i know the old cliche of telling someone to get a life is pathe but it couldn't me more apt with these continual NV v ATI bore fests.

i've decided not bother reading this part of the forum anymore, it's filled with too many immature idiots with blinkers on repeating the same old information they read elsewhere who actually think they know a thing or 2 (having something original to say of their own would be too much to ask for it seems).

LOL ..damn right.

Define better...

Well scalling on crossfire is usually within the range of 80-95% in the majority of titles supported

SLi usually around 30-50% in the majority of titles supported

That would be better :)

Dont get me wrong the 8800GT wallops a single HD3870 but the whole SLi vs Crossfire thing is a different debate altogether!

There is not too many immature idiots in this forum. I'm confused, some people like me who thought the 2900 was a pile of **** and said they hated ATi and moves to NV gets slated and no I'm like good on yer ATi as I really think this could be a good card as we know how well crossfire scales better than SLi and the possibility this may not be using crossfire yet.

See jrodga2k5 got it right, NV is winning in the single card scene but as far as dual card scene goes ATi's cards are climing to the top.

There is, or at least was a fair amount of "fanboism" on here, but it seems to be changing, the people that seemed to be worst for it are now praising ATi's efforts, which i'd have to say are pretty good as of late, we all know the 2900 wasn't amazing, it wasn't THAT bad either I am a fan of ATi myself, and do prefer their cards over nVidia's, but I know who has the "top performance crown" as of today, I just prefer having an ATi card(unless the performance difference was extremely drastic of course), and we all know that the 3800s are what the 2900s should have been but there's no point still bickering about it anymore. To be fair about Willhub and Loadsamoney, they've been quite positive about ATi's efforts with the 3870X2, and showing some possible interest in getting one. There are immature people on these forums, but then that's life, people will seem "immature" to the people out there who are possibly overly mature for their age but I'm sure they'll calm down, I'm sure you all remember how psychas acted when the 2900s came out, he'd swear blind that the 2900 decimated an 8800 ultra, which we all know isn't true, but he's obviously calmed down a lot now (sorry dude :p).

Bang on!!!!. (Are you reincarnated Kylew (very knowledgeable about certain folk hmmmm) :p)

I'm also not implying that Willhub and Loadsa are immature either though. A bit drastic at times regarding ATI but that's it and now are warming up to ATI's solution of reducing the prices and doing well with what they have. Fair play.

Psychas was a funny dude and I loved the fact he wore the ATI badge so proudly. Even if his thoughts were a little deluded at first but I think it was hard for all of us to accept the card after the successful X1900 series to work like it did with AA. I had my AMD system running with my 2900Pro and although I knew my AA experience was never going to be rich I started to enjoy my gaming without looking for/noticing the jaggies but I am happy with my move over to the dark side but I still love me some AMD and that showed when I received my GTX a few weeks ago. As soon as I received the GTX I seen a post from Gibbo saying that he had one of the new dual AMD cards in a system which led me to Marcsay's post with his crossfire results that had me thinking of selling my GTX before I even took the handle off after receiving it from the Citylink driver. Not a fanboy in anyway but I would love to see AMD in the limelight again as I've enjoyed my time with them and they stepped up the market when Intel was loving the lethargic approach. We might not have had Conroe without AMD (well not as soon).

Hopefully I can give AMD my money again but they need to raise the bar again before I will do so (CPU & GPU). This Dual GPU might do it for me but it has to hold AA performances and I've seen Jinkxy say that it won't and MArcsay say that it will. I hate time :p.

If the benchmarks are good and shows it beating the GTX by a large margin and costing around £250, I'll be getting this 3870X2 on launch for sure, cant wait :D.

When is the X2 due I'm desperate!!!!!!!!!!!!

There was a lot of hype about the 2900xt/2900xtx and because it was late and a let down people were ****** off i waited a few months for it myself but got a 320 in feb/march as was fed up of waiting for ati to find out who had the faster cards ati or nvidia.

No swearing, JG

See DrunkenMaster. He's not a hater :D.

If its not 20+ fps faster than my 8800GT, or if I cant play at 1680x1050 with my cfg with at least 15-20fps higher I wont get it, I'll only get it providing the above is true and for some benchmarking fun :D.

Hows it over one year old?
Its using the G92 core.

He thinks of it like this:

G80 is one year old, G92 is just a refreshed G80 on a lower process with abit extra added, 9800GX2 is 2x G92, thats how he's got the 1 yr figure :).

Yes but does it need a new core? No. Ati are still basically using the R600 core if you want to do it that way.
R600 vs g80 = G80 wins
R680 vs g92 = G92 wins

Just that Ati have priced it much better thats its worth considering.

And also crossfire is better than Sli so it should eliminate the AA problems that ATI have.

Yea the 8800GT is better than a 3870XT, but it soon changes when you put 8800GT SLi Vs 3870 SLi. the 3870 is basically like 7-8 months old.
