Hi all.

Last week I had a Nokia 6120 classic for a few days on the 3 network(payg) before taking it back due to their branding which had removed the gsm only option under network mode. I also just found out that even if the setting was there it will change straight back to 3G/dual mode within minutes due to 3 only wanting you to use their own network and not piggy back off the others.

My area is right in between having/not having 3G so a lot of the time the mobile was trying to switch between 3g/non 3g which meant it was hard to hold on to a signal a lot of the time. Later on up the line perhaps I,ll go back on 3 as I'm meant to be moving house soon so the coverage might be better. In the meantime its a no no.

I loved the 6120c itself mind you for the short time I had it and was all set to order a non branded/unlocked one from a certain jersey site when I spotted the E51 for slightly more.

From what I can see from reading reviews the E51 is slightly improved with a better case, nicer keypad/shortcuts, more inbuilt ram, wi-fi and better functions for business users.

Does anyone have any experience with using this mobile at all?

Minus the flash/not having a camera on the front is the quality of the camera the same?

How good/reliable is the wi-fi?

How would you rate the battery?

Any features missing from it that are on the 6120c that you are aware of and any negative comments you can point out?

Thanks.

I bought a 6120 on 3 this week to use as a hdspa modem on their payg tariffs. I love the phone, it is very responsive and the features are excellent for a £99 phone. It hooks up superbly to my pc and the battery life seems reasonable. Haven't had a play with the new E series phone but it looks pretty good, but I bet the battery will take a hammering if the wifi is always turned on.

There is about £50 difference for the sim free models. £140 6120 or £190 e51.

I would say it all comes down to the need for wifi. If you need it go for the e51 if not get the 6120.

I was also thinking about getting a e51 but didn't need the wifi so ended up with a 6120.

Speaking of the 6120 I think it's one of the most underrated and unknown phones at the moment. Love mine.

At the time I thought it was only £30 more when I looked cs1.6 when its actually £50. My mistake for browsing at silly times in the night/morning :)

Its a silly amount more for a non braned/simfree one I know.

I still can not decide on which nor totaly justify the extra money for the e51 so I,ll probaly stick to the 6120 which I really liked.

How do you guys find the battery on it with just daily use? A few days out of it on average?

Have only had my 6120 for 4 days now, so I am not sure how long the battery is going to last, especially if I hammer the hsdpa modem at 1400kbps on 3, I suspect that will give the battery a fair caning. I suspect 3 days will be a good battery life for me.
I think this Nokia phone is vastly underrated phone, plenty of bang for bucks features. I mean all the networks will charge you £99 for a payg USB HSDPA modem when you can this phone with its built in modem for the same price. I am going to Austria next weekend for some skiing and I will be using the Austria 3 network which offers faster HSDPA speeds, should be interesting comparing the speeds.

Sorry to dig up a relatively old thread but what did you go for in the end?

I'm weighing up between the e51 and 6120 at the moment too. Cheers :)

I'd strongly recommend any considering these 2 phones to go the E51 route. That extra RAM makes ALL the different to S60 3rd Edition (no more crashing browser due to the phone running out of RAM).
