Ok Needed to buy a new power supply as building a PC for my sister. went to my local PC shop as wanted to finish the build that night.

Told the guy I wanted a PSU for a dual core system I was building , he picked one up and said this PSU will work and it works with dual core and triple core?.

Any way get the PSU home and spend over a hour trying to connect the power connector to the CPU and nothing seems to fit.

Look at the underneath of the power supply and it says "pentuim4"

I take it this PSU will not work with dual core in any way ? as its only meant for pentuim4 systems ?

I all ways thought any PSU would work with any type of CPU

The pentium 4 sticker just means that it has the additional +12v 4pim connector as required by most modern mainboards.

The PSU should have 1 x 20pin or 24pin connector and 1 x +12v 4pin (or could be 8 pin)

There should be no reason why it doesn't fit unless your build reuses an mainboard from someone like DELL who don't always use standard connections.

Do you have a make and model for the PSU, what mainboard do you have?

Can you take some photo's, this will give us a better idea.

Also whats the spec of the PC.

The motherbaord I am using is a EVGA nForce 680i

I am at work but will phone the mrs with the make of PSU. it was only £30 from my local PC shop as that was the best one they had , and I was desperate to finish the build last night.

The PSU has the 24 pin cable which I no fits on the side of the motherboard , my problem is none of the 4 pin cables fit in the CPU power which from my motherboard manual says they need to be plugged in to ports 1-6.

Seem 2 be running out if ideas. Will post back PSU specs when I find out

Is it some times the case that cheap PSU`s dont carry all the cables you need ?

Just had a quick google.

Looking at the board there is the 24pin you mentioned and then behind the PS2 ports is a 8pin +12v connector. This socket is compatable with the 4pin +12v connector from the PSU, but it only fits in one way since the shape of the shrouded pins should match. It's either all the way to the left or all the way to the right depending on how you socket is orientated.

I'm not sure what the manual means by ports 1-6, can't find a copy to download.

gona take my CPU cooler of when I get in so I can get right at the CPU power port and try to plug the cable in a diffrent way ie backwards , sideways etc I take it this was what you meant by all the way to the left or right ?

My motherbaord tell me to plug a 4 pin or 8 pin (I only have 4 pin) to the CPU power supply connector and plug in to ports 1 2 5 6 , which means at the top.

None of my 4 pin cables match right with the shapes on ports 1 2 4 6

Lets say it doesn't fit could I cut the plastic square and other weird shape thing on the end of the cable so its fits to my motherboard ?

I remember lat night thou trying all the 4pin connectors and none of them fitted at all to my 680i motherboard

There is no logical reason why it shouldnt fit.

DO NOT CUT ANYTHING LOL (Soz caps but had to stress that!!)

PSU Connectors are keyed for a reason ;)

8 pin block should be

1234
5678

So in theory it should be 1,2,5&6 that it fits in.

But that all depends on the way your looking at the board and the orientation of the socket i guess.

Again do not cut or force anything though.

Whats the connector look like that you have on the psu? it could be the old style at a guess? I have seen some very old p4 mobos that use a connector thats similar to a molex but its not a molex

is 1234 all side by side.

Instead of the square.

I think you are confusing the guy. He is obviously very new to this.

Like the others have said get some photos up of all the connectors on your PSU and we can tell you which connector goes where.

PS. To my knowledge Intel or AMD have never released a triple core CPU. The retailer probably meant Quad Core.

I will fully test when I get home at 3pm I agree that if I cant get it to fit its because the PSU is a cheapo one as it only cost me £30

Can any one let me no what type of PSU I would need to power this and has all connections I would need to hook it up to my EVGA 680i motherbaord ?

1 x Hard drive
2 GB Ram
E4400
7800 GTS

I do plan on a average overclock as well

My gut feeling is that the PSU is fine. But you must take some pics and post them here. We will very quickly tell you which plug goes where.

Ok people I am now 100% certain that this PSU doesn't have the right 4 pin connector. I only have 2 of them and I have tried both of them many times and they wont fit in ports 1 2 5 6 which my motherboard manual tell me to plug them in to.

I can attach 1 of the 4 pin cables in to ports 3 4 7 8 but i take it I wont be able to plug it in to there as it wont power the CPU.

As mentioned I am building a PC for my sister so I attached "my" PSU to ports 1 2 5 6 and noticed that the cable used had all the shapes sought of like a circle , with no squares. The EZcool PSU has a mixture of circles and squares hence why it doesnt fit

Any ideas ??

1000000000% doesn't fit thou guys
