Bow? Good Lord, man, you can do better than that. Where do you need to be near? From what I remember it's not a very nice area.

If you're going to East London, might want to look at Isle of Dogs or a little further afield (and south) Greenwich, Woolwich.
Central Greenwich is nice but I have heard very bad things about Woolwich from several sources.

Wanstead is nice.
Need to be near St. Cathrines Dock's and Liverpool street. I've looked at the places around and there are lots of nice ones about but you can get more for your money if you go 15 min (train) outside the city.
The reason I'm asking about Bromley-by-Bow specifically is that you can get pretty enormous, modern, 2 bed apartments for the same amount of money as a place half the size in the city. From the responses so far, I think I know why.

There's a lot of new places going up on the former industrial wasteground between Bow and Stratford. Personally, I wouldn't want to live there because it's nothing but houses. Not much to do within walking distance and it looks a bit grim.

That's what the place is called, there is no bromley on bow.
