***Official MacBook Air Thread***

Im very tempted, i want a laptop for photography trips when my 17¨MBP is too big and this would fit the bill nicely... Im going to have to visit an Apple store and see how i like the look in the flesh... Which probably means ill have one on Sunday. :)

It'd be pointless speccing it with the 80GB PATA drive as the whole reason behind the ultra-portable was meant to be "solid state".

You're looking at a MacBook with a MacBook Pro pricetag, even with the 80GB drive.

@ Darryn, more money than sense!

The Macbook air will be bought by style conscious people, I can see that by people who don't really care about spec, but what they care about is not having a butt ugly laptop like the Acer 5630 sat on my lap at the moment. I must admit can you show me a more sexier/stylish looking notebook on the market? Personally I would have a XPS M1330 specced up, but the MB air looks damn sexy.

Ilove small laptops and was hoping for a 13" pro, (addicted to games), I would only have to take it from my car so no need for something this small and feable.

What GPU is in it? x3100 would mean a few games.

You lot are missing the point, it’s a not a laptop to be used in the home, its an ultra portable and the price is not bad for what it is.

I was looking at the IBM X61s which is not too much cheaper than this, I will probably buy one after I get to play with it in real life. Yes the sepc is crap but that does not matter because what is important is how much space it takes up in your bag and how heavy it is.

Well I've been looking forward to this for quite some time and I'm pretty disappointed. It seems to me it's another fine example of Apple's 'style over substance':

Jobs was keen to make comparisons between the Sony TZ series, where as IMO the TZ is an infinately more versatile laptop than the Air, and I think the extra few hundred quid for a TZ is totally justified.

At the pinnacle of "wireless technology" - but the Air has no Wireless WAN, unless I'm mistaken.

No Firewire or DASP is most odd (which even my Acer has), but I really fancied the optical drive.

For me, the Macbook Air is another example where Apple have missed out putting another nail in the Microsoft/Sony coffin. They did it with Leopard, and they've done it again now.

The goal is left open for Sony to convert - hopefully a 12" TZ with a 6pin Firewire port and a 1.6Ghz dual core would be lovely. Neeeeed 6pin F/W, and if those 60% smaller CPUs from Intel aren't exclusive to Apple - then the next TZ offerring could be v. nice indeed.

But I did want an excuse to get a Mac... damn it.

Impressive.

Ok, your at a business presentation, you pull out a Dell D630, a classic business notebook, not an eyebrow is raised. You pull out a macBook Air and your audience will be interested. The MacBook air is a style/fashion/technology statement, it has Apple style innovation, it will be featured in many style/design magazines and it also features cutting edge Intel cpu and solid state technology. This notebook will tick a lot of boxes for many people.

Its interesting, looking at a number of mac forums it seems tha people have a very 'marmite' view on the macbook air. Whilst its obvious that it has a niche market- i believe it will be a sucess

If someone turned up to do a presentation with that I'd laugh in their face.

Does anyone know the price if you get educational (university) discount? I havent looked yet. Bit too pricey for me at the moment but would be interesting to see how much it would cost with the uni discount.

Ive checked the non higher education discount and that works , so I assume the higher education will as well- which would put it at around 1k for cost
