Hi,

Decided this is going to be the year where I kick back a bit and take lots of holiday so I bought an extra five days holiday, I forgot that this year is my 5th year anniversary so I get an extra 3 days anyway.

So this year that means I have 38 days holiday!!:D (not including bank holiday)

Booya!

25 days including bank holidays.
New job though so not exactly had any time to accrue extra :p

I'l be getting 33 days not including bank holidays, + 2 days flexi a month as of Monday in my new job. So if I take my full allowance that's 57 days, crikey. (ok I know flexi days don't really count :p)

I had 35 not including Bank Holidays last year... This year I have only 25 :(

I can't remember how many I have next year, think it's 28 days plus 8 bank holidays, still a nice amount. Even then I also get an extra day for each 3 months I have with no absence.

I swear I'll never take the UK holiday leave for granted again once I return.

In Canada the standard holiday is 10 days per year + about 9 public holiday days. Also for the 1st year most companies say that you aren't entitled to take any holiday, as you have to work a year first in order to 'earn' it.

I tell them about 20 days being about the minimum in the UK with lots of places giving you about 30 days a year. They all say it's crazy and that they don't see how the companies get anything done!

But then I suppose we only pay about 10-15% total taxes/deductions on our wages and 5% GST (VAT equivalent) with no council tax etc so it's not all bad. Actually come to think of it I'm curious as to how the authorities manage to provide pretty much exactly the same facilities as the UK whilst collecting such little money + the Alberta province has about $5 billion extra money in the bank they they're trying to decide whether to spend or just divide up between everyone.
