Is there any software/addons i can download that will enable a pop-up when i recieve a new email message? Im running Vista x64 with Office Outlook 2003(prepared to switch client)and my incoming email server is pop3 :)

Thanks, Ben

Try eprompter - its a standalone app that will beep and theres a rotating circle on the taskbar telling you how many new mail you have, then you just open up your email client to receive the mail.

but make sure you change the setting to make it check for mail every few mins after you set it up.

Outlook does that itself  Is there something wrong with the way it works or you want something different or what?

Only tells me i have email when i run it, im wanting it to tell me when its not open, maybe a little pop-up box in the bottom right or a sound or something. Is there a way to do that?

If your computer is good enough just run it 24/7 in the tray?

do you use windows live messenger? use msgplus to set up custom pop3 email notifications?

Dont use Live messenger so ill run it in the tray, got 4GB of RAM so hopefully it wont affect performance, any ideas on how to get the tray icon up?

  • Click on the Outlook icon in the system tray with the right mouse button.
  • Select Hide When Minimized from the menu.
Also by the way i didn't mean to put you off! im sure there are plenty of applications out there to do what you want. Was just trying to kill 2 birds with one stone (eg use MSN or use your mail client)

*edit*

performance will be fine, 4gb of Ram here and you would not believe how much crap i run and its still nice and fast :)

Cheers Allllec, have it running in the tray, 'tis only using 7MB of RAM anyway :D

Many Thanks ;)

Just another quick question, Is there anyway to start it minimised so i dont have to keep minimising it each startup?

Thanks, Ben

Im not 100% sure (dont use outlook myself) but i imagine in the options there will be, there are for most applications i've ever seen that support running in system tray!

good luck

*edit*

if not disable it from starting up

drag a shortcut into startup folder on start menu

go right click > properties and set it to "minimized" from the options on the first tab :) that'll do the trick
