One of the Hurricane Katrina victims has put a rather large price tag on their pain and suffering. The mysterious plaintiff is suing the US government for $3 quadrillion. The suit was filed in filed in Baker, LA about 93 miles from New Orleans

Approximately 489,000 claims have been filed against the government because of damage caused by the levee breaks. The Army Corps of Engineers states that they have received at least 247 suits asking for at least $1 billion each.

The Army Corps of Engineers has accepted responsibility for the levees breaking, due to poor design. The city of New Orleans has also filed suit against the corps for $77 billion.

Considering the GDP of the USA is just $13 trillion I doubt the whole country is even worth that amount of money, if this isn't a wind up that person is a fool.

it looks likely, people will win. But they won't get anywhere near that amount.

Some residents may have grossly exaggerated their claims to send a message to the corps, which has accepted blame for poorly designing the failed levees.

"I understand the anger," Scott said. "I also understand it's a negotiating tactic: Aim high and negotiate down."

cant believe each of those people think they have lost a million dollars... really they gotta be kidding themselves.

They don't think that, but in the US you can sue for more than amount you 'lost' due to whatever. A lot of the time those sort of claims win too, so you can't blame people for trying. Well, you can but you know what I mean :p

I believe an extortionate claim was filed a while ago in the USA, merely to prove a point and get media attention. I can't remember what for though. Looks like it has worked.
