New Drivers Cause HD3870 to Beat 8800GT with High RES & AA

I'm not worried I would never put a single 3870XT in my PC the only way I'd buy a single XT is if they were going buy one get one free.

And just think, when the 2900XT came out everyone was saying how poo it was, just look what it evolved into! ATi have done a good job here.

You can feel wilhub's worriedness (if that is a real word) in his voi... i mean, font. :D

I got rid of my 2900xt a couple days before the 8800GT and my GTS 640 was faster than it and now I have an overclocked GT you really think I am worried looooooool???

I moved from a 2900XT to the 3870 and am very chuffed I made the move, they are coming on very nicely :)

Calm down mate, I was messing with you. :D

I don't get it, the 2900 XT hasn't been boosted to take over the GT, yet its exactly the same card, its just a diff name, on a bigger process, has a bigger bus, and a louder cooler.

But you could say that about the new GTS, it's just got more shaders and less memory, but what I'm wondering is, when CPUs shrink in nm they become more efficient per clock, does the same happen for GPUs?

Took them long enough! Yes they have done their best with what they have, transforming a mediocre card into something much more attractive at competitive price.

Good improvements, if I don't have a card atm I'd be seriously tempted to go for one of these especially @ £140 on OCUK. But there's hardly any reason to switch to 3870XT from 8800GT.

Its also got more Texture Address Units, and Texture Filtering Processors (has same as the GT), which makes the GT and new GTS a lot quicker than the old GTS.

The 3870 is just an overclocked 2900 XT, the specs are identical, apart from the 3870 has a smaller 256bit bus, but it has slightly higher core speed, and the memory is also faster.

Could you be anymore desperate to assure yourself you made the right decision?

Its embarrassing, please stop.

Do you want me to buy a 3870XT or something? I'm not desperate how can I be when I've litrally had one of these cards...
