Hi
I'm about to purchase a Q6600 and want to overclock it as much as possible so it runs 24/7 at this speed.
I know the general concensus is to go for Thermalright Ultra-120 Extreme or Tuniq tower.
Unfortunately the Tuniq tower will be about 1cm too tall for my case (Old Coolermaster Praetorian) and the Thermalright one is even taller still.
So, what are my other options?

P.S. I like the case so buying another is not an option thanks. :p

Scythe Ninja or Infinity, Noctua, Tuniq Tower, any one of them will serve you well, whatever you decide just dont buy the Freezer Pro 7...

Sorry to hijack slgihtly, but i figured it'd be better than making a new thread. I will be purchasing a Q6600 very soon, along with a Scythe Ninja PLUS Rev.B. Thing is, would the cooler fit into an Antec P182 case? The motherboard will be an Asus P5B.

Whats wrong with the Freezer 7 Pro? i can get 3.8ghz at 1.4 temps never go above 70*C after 9 hours of prime.

No bad for a £10 cooler.

Thermalright Ultima 90i is almost as good as the Ultra 120 Extreme. You can install a 92mm or 120mm fan, depending on what will fit. The Noctua NH-U9F is a great cooler too. Both the Noctua and Ultima are under 140mm tall.

Got to agree with matty, my Q6600 @ 3.5 ghz never goes over 59C under full prime load using the freezer 7, granted its not one of the cooling behemoths but its simple to fit, cheap and does a pretty decent job.

Exactly, if you read the OP then you must have missed the bit where he said "overclock it as much as possible". ;) Freezer Pro 7 is not bad for the money yes i totally agree, but lets be honest here its not a patch on the high end air coolers if you want to keep temps down much as possible. :)

True enough, but a good portion of people overclocking "as far as possible" tend to not actually clock as far as truly possible (myself included) and in the end and settle for 3.4-3.6Ghz which the freezer 7 can manage which is why I'd suggested it. Unless your benching purely to get higher 3DMark or lower SuperPi scores all the threads I've read seem to point to the fact that you don't tend to see much in real world benefit above this, but I take your point :D

Thanks for all of your replies.
There were some really good choices that I hadn't thought of in your posts.
After reading this review http://www.anandtech.com/casecoolingpsus/showdoc.aspx?i=3068&p=1
I think I will go for the Thermalright Ultima-90i.
If I find the HSF is not good enough then I'll have to consider cutting the side of my case open and putting a large HSF in there.
Now to find a quiet 92mm fan with lots of airflow.
Thanks agin.
