No this isn't animal cruelty before anyone starts.

Just been told that my sisters dog could die as it's eaten a packet of Anadin Extras.

Now, what are the chances of this killing the dog? it's a Cavalier King Charles, just over a year old and upto this day has been perfectly healthy and is all jabbed up etc.

And I've already said "well at least it won't die without a headache" :p - so no wise cracks :p

Cheers!

I'm assuming you are getting it down the vet as soon as possible? Even kids are only supposed to take one at a time and they have a much bigger body mass so I wouldn't expect poochie to get away scott free.

Let us know if it's ok!

A packet of Anadin Extra being how many pills? I know Anadin is a blood thinner and Paracetamol affects the liver - it could well be serious for a small dog. Tbh if it were my dog I'd contact the vets.

So many factors to be honest.

Couple of things, try not to let it sleep.
If you can, give it something like soup and then make it play fetch in the garden to try and induce vomiting.
Charcoal biscuit would be IDEAL!

Just keep an eye in it and use common sense.

But should be fine.

Well my sister has gone out so I can only assume it's to the vets! I was only told this on the way home when Dad picked me up from the station.

Will do!

Cheers dude, will pass on the info :)

Will keep you updated.

vet will either pump its stomach or maybe even have to put it down because depending on how many it ate its going to be a painful as **** death :/

It is important to note than animals react very differently to human medicines than humans.
Some things which humans commonly ingest 1-2 tablets purchased from Tescos can easily kill animals within an hour. Soem things which are fatal to humans are harmless to some animals.
It changes from drug to drug and animal to animal (hence a being a Vet is about 10000X harder than being a human doctor).

If the effects of parcetamol were the same as with humans then this would be serious. But I have the feeling that paracetamol is a lot more dangerous for dogs than humans, so even a few pills could easily kill a small dog. Hopefully I am wrong and the effects are harmless.

quick msn to my Vet sister, paracetamol is leathful to CATs (death within 24hours common). In DOGs low usage is not a problem and used to be prescribed. High dosage cna be a problem because of small body mass. Would be somewhat worse than a small child weighing the same weight taking the same amount.

Suggests immediate stomach pump and charcoal fluid to be safe.

Well I've been told it's in the hospital and it's had it's stomach pumped - Thanks for the info people :)

Can only wait and see!!!

You know if someone told me their dog had just eaten enough tablets to be considered an overdose for a human, I wouldn't post on an internet computer forum to ask what should be done.

Is it not pretty damn obvious that you needed to get it to the vets? If everyone had have posted "It'll be fine", would you have not taken it to the vets?

Jesus christ!

Show me where I asked what to do :)

It's my sisters dog, she took it to the vets straight away, I was only told about it on my way home, which if you read above, you'll see.
