I prefer aa over res... How can ppl play crysis with no aa,, yeah higher res sorts out jagged edges a bit, but aa does the job much better.

I play crysis at 1024x768 with 4xaa, on high settings accept the shaddows that are on med detail. I think it looks much nicer then running it at 1280x1024 with no aa

I prefer to balance them both, which is why I won't have a monitor over 1680x1050 any time soon.

That said, nine out of ten times I'd rather play with antialiasing than without.

for res i use 1280x1024 due to my monitor, for AA, i just put it as high as possible until i dont have a good/acceptable FPS

If I cant run a game at my native resolution with AA you wont see me changing my resolution I'll tell you that. :) Res > AA imo

Why wouldn't you be able to? Can you notice above 4xAA at 800x600? Yes! The resolution of a monitor doesn't effect how jaggies appear at all.

yes it does. Which is why with a 24" you dont need aa as much. More smaller pixils means that the jaggies arn't as big and are less obious. The aa just adds to the smoothness but isn't really needed overly.

Most people sit further away from a 24" screen just because of the size of it, that's the only reason people notice them less, I'm saying they still physically look exactly the same. The pixels aren't any smaller in a 24" monitor than a 17" monitor. Unless I'm being extremely stupid.

I would still be sitting the same way away.

The pixils are smaller. This means the jaggidys get smaller too, because there is lots of small ones it has the effect of smoothing it out.

Zoom in on a picture and it goes all jaggidy. Zoom out and make the pixils smaller and they dissapear.

I'd go for both, but I wouldn't sacrifice my res for AA, especially on these new fangled LCDs with their native rez.

Pixel density plays a big part - a 20' at 1680x1050 would need less AA than a 22' at the same rez.
