Im curious as to how many chin ups the average person can do?
Cant seem to find anything on the net about it

I managed 12 full chin ups before i couldnt do any more
I dont know whether to be embarrased or not :p

How many can you do?

EDIT - and i mean in the one set before you stop for rest. i can obviously do more once iv had a bit of rest

The average person most certainly can't do any. I guess you mean the average youngish male in which case i'd say... still 0 haha.

I can do about 8. I'm just fairly fit not muscular.

I think if you can do more than say 5 your doing ok.
I do each Wide pull ups (or Rocky pulls) and normal pull ups twice a week. Can do say 15 wide pulls and about 20 pull ups.
Next, I want to start training to do one-arm pull ups.

one arm where you grab the wrist or fully one arm? The former is a grip exercise (i can do em :D) but the latter is just retarded! With nothing to pull against your back has little influence leaving you to bicep curl your bodtyweight, an impressive feat! if i could 1 arm curl 115 kg you would see me, oooh every december, on TV with all the other rock lifting fat blokes! :D

Yeah I'm afraid I'm going for the near impossible one lol - can do 1 when gripping my wrist but like you say that's cheating ;)
I've started doing them on the assist machine and just hope I can knock the weight down each week. It's not a huge goal of mine but just something.
Even strong guys who weigh a lot struggle with pullups, especially wide grip
True, it is more apparent the lighter more nimble guys can do more.
I weigh 220lbs (think it's about 15st-ish) and can do them :D

I can do 6 in one go (just done it tonight actually).

I've been working up by adding 1 each week during my usual routine. I'm aiming to be able to do 3 sets of 8 but at the minute I really struggle with set number 2 never mind the 3rd set. I think once I can do 3x8 comfortably I should be able to do more in a single go.

I'd like to be able to do 20 or so but that's a long way off at the minute.

Panzer

Can do about 10 in one go.

I'm 5 11 and getting on for 11 stone. No fat though to speak of.

Can do about 20 in total, but it requires rest.

This is with a grip a bit over a metre wide and doing them fast up and then slow down, as I think this makes them better?

These are one of the few exercises I do. (bicycle type crunch things where you pull yourself over too, press ups, back stuff, dips and chin ups.)

Which way do you mean? I can do loads when having my knuckles facing away from me so using my biceps but probably about 1-2 when I have my arms wide and knuckles facing towards me lol.

EDIT: I must add, I weigh around 74 kg's so I doubt I could do any if I was much heavier.

I can do 15-20. Or at least I could last time I tried and I'm at about the same fitness level.

Over 6'1 and 82kg.

It depends if it's wide grip or not. Wide grip I can do 10 without too much hassle - haven't tried doing more in one set, I'll try it next time. I tend to do 3 or 4 sets of 10 - though I fail on the last set usually.

Narrow grip I can do about 12 or so again without too much hassle, and again I haven't tried seeing how many I can do.

I'm just over 6'1" and 95kg

I am going to work on this though over the next few months, doing lat pull downs each work out to start building familiarity with the exercise.

Would like to reach the stage where i can do plyometric ones like Jesse (RIP) used to.

Though I guess i'm not the average person :D

Yeah but you're a biiiig mofo! :p I'm sure if you had to pull yourself up over a wall or something to get away from trouble you'd be able to do it - either that or knock the wall down ;) :D
