As a final farewell to this mighty fine (read TERRIBLE TERRIBLE POS) GPU, I have just fired up UT3 to see what it made of it...

Or if you want physical evidence of its shere brutal power, check out this fraps shot... mmm mmmm mmmmmmm...

Judge it for yourself...

Be warned, your eternal soul will be forever tainted...

Believe it or not that is Deck and NOT Doom2...

Oh how far we have come in such a short space of time :D

Cause the FX5900 can't compute for ****. Oh, and UT3 seems to play like a dodgy console port...

You sure it plays like a dodgy console port I get a solid 60fps at 1680x1050 here

I wish I kept my FX5200 now, I had one and got another one coz it was 256mb :P

I've got an FX5200, it's crap anyway and will be even worse in games now it's with a system on XP with 256mb RAM :D
Nice screenie though!

Then why does someone with a 7600GS have to make it look just as bad as above to play, when the minimum requirement is a Geforce 6200?

I thought ut3 ran and looked sweet.

Same. Running it almost full@1280x960 on a 320MB 8800 GTS+E2140@stock (stupid motherboard ¬_¬), no problems here, runs sweet as a nut and looks fantastic. Good fun, too. :p

But yeah, the FX5900 has been severely outclassed, even by GPUs made by ATi of its era (just to clarify, I mean the 9700 Pro, 9800 Pro, etc). Even an 8500 GT would be a decent upgrade from that...

Edit: Also, I could play UT3 on my X1650 Pro and it looked far better than the provided screenshot, so I'm not sure what the problem with your 7600 GS is?

But most of us don't use 8800-class cards? I'm talking about the crap in the system requirements...

What was the rest of your spec? The GS was run with 1GB DDR and a 3Ghz P4, by the way.

Ouch

the 5 series doesn't exactly handle DX9 very well :S but it was plenty powerful at DX7 and 8 :D

I was lucky and got my hands on a Gainward Golden Sample 5900XT Engineering Sample that would overclock by more than 50% on the core and memory... otherwise I'd probably have been a bit stuck coz I wouldn't have bought ATI however dire the 5 series was...

Pretty much the same as it is now:

Stock E2140 (reiterate: Stupid motherboard ¬_¬)
2GB DDR2
40GB HDD (at the time, now have a 500GB hard disk)
X1650 Pro (DDR2, made of fail, lovely IceQ cooler, though. Of course I have the much bigger, badder 8 series card now).

I did try it with 512MB of RAM once, it was playable, but I use that term very loosely. Edit: More in-depth: Basically, it'd reach the same high-FPS as the system did with 2GB of RAM, but the times when that happened were extremely infrequent, and the lows were much lower.

I would try it with my mum's 2.9GHz P4 with 512MB RAM and a GeForce 6200 LE, but I don't think that's even worth trying.

Hmm, its possible the dual core makes a difference, the UT engine has been CPU-limited historically.

Thats an ageing card now, anything from an X1950Pro could run this game maxed and they going cheap now hell you can get 2900XT's for like 80 quid now and they will run it on high so really you dont need an expensive card to max it out.
