8800GT 1024mb

Yes, restricted by the bandwith, if I remeber correctly. Have a look through this section as I know there is a thread about it somewhere

For the amount your paying for a 1GB version compared to a 512mb GT, its a cracking deal, yes i do get slow downs in crysis and COD4 on my 512mb GT when the vram is maxed so it is beneficial to have 1GB in some games and most definitely in future ones like Alan wake.

None, because they arn't.

256bit bus just isn't fast enough to utilise it properly.

If I remeber rightly someone posted a comparions of all the GT models (256, 512 and 1gb) and the 512mb one was the fastest in most games and benchmarks...

if the 1GB 2900 didnt have much of a performance boost over the 512MB, and that was on a much wider bus and GDDR4, how much of a boost do you expect to see with 1GB GDDR3 on a 256bit bus?

TBH, if you want to game at the res's that saturate the GT's memory, then you really should be looking at the G80 GTX rather than the GT/GTS G92.... more RAM and more bandwidth mean they generaly seem to outperform the newer G92s at ultra high res gaming.

Hello Again,

My card has arrived today and I've been busy with it. It does not look like the one in the picture here. It is an Xpertvision 8800GT 1024mb. It has memory chips on both sides. A big blue hestsink on the GPU and a blue metal strip around on the memory chips on the front and a large blue plate that covers most of the back of the card. The voltage regulators have a smaller heatsink them. This default settings are 600 core, 1500 shaders and 900 memory. Temperature wise with Speedfan 4.33, it idles at Core 43C and Card ?? (called ambient in Speedfan ??) is 33C, full load with Atitool 27beta4 on artifact watch is 62C core and card 44C.

Will I loose my warranty if I overclock it ?? I have also seen some site suggesting a bios flash ? Again will doing this void my warranty ???

Overclocking does void your warranty, however if you do it using software like rivatuner i am unsure exactly they will tell that you have overclocked your card?

A bios flash will definitely void your warranty and will be obvious to the manufacturer if you return it.

Hi Streeteh,

Thanks for the reply,

So if for arguments sake, hypothetically speaking as it were..., IF you had RivaTuner 2.06 fan set to 100% and IF you did the 1.1V Bios mod and set the default card settings in the bios to say 756 core, 1890 shaders and 950 memory and had no artifacts on Atitool after 15 Min's with temps like 64C core and 44C V-regs, that would void your warranty ? I bet a card like that would see some nice benches with Forceware 171.16 Beta everything set on "Quality". I bet you would get scores in 3dMark01=61637,03=43297,05=22113,06=15170 if your [email protected], 2gb memory system could keep up.

Hmmmmmmmmmmm Don't think it's worth the risk. Do you ?

Tabbz :D

Run #1- DX9 1280x1024 AA=No AA, 32 bit test, Quality: High ~~ Overall Average FPS: 46.575

Form the review I read, it gives 3-4 fps extra on crysis, but lower fps on every other game.

so if you love crysis, its not a bad buy, but for the rest its bad
