Arrrggghh people + technology

Never seen the point in these threads, like me going

arhhhhhhhh people and cricket

me:bowl on off stump
him: goes down leg side
me:bowl a yorker
him: bowls a half volley
me: bowl and outswing
him: bowls reverse swing

Its just that they havnt used/ rely on it as much in your case.
In my case they havnt practiced of got enough experience to.....

I have heard of a monitor being referred to as the computers head and also asked why does another fan start up when a DVD is in the drive.

I always get people who bring in PC's with "notes".

But it's not in english in any way or form, just random words.
How can people fail so BADLY at writing something when technology is involved?

I can't connect to work at the mo...i'll have to post the list I recevied friday.

Me when working on my placement

Me: Hi
Caller: Hi, can you help me, I tried opening a picture and its all come up in random funny letters
Me: Your opening every type of file through Word again arent you!

Seriously, I need to find whoever is training people to open things this way and shoot them! I ask people to go to their documents folder and the start opening word! GRRR!

Jesus, you people are so up your own asses some times.

If i deal with 1st line at work, i just speak to them in terms they will understand.

Keep it simple and they will understand you.

I'm level 2 support now so don't "often" deal with such calls these days but you do get from time to time the people who sneakily manage to get through on the higher level queues and it can be frustrating at times when you're being as helpful as possible but the punk on the other end is demanding to know why the "email is down" or "internet is broken" and not follow your instructions!

You've missed my point, its not about jargon, I don't know what any of that means, but then I don't use cricket in my everyday life, I don't use cricket for my business, I don't work from home using cricket.

My favourite i think though is how vague people are;

Caller: My Internet isn't working.
Me: OK, so what error message do you get?
Caller: Nothing, it just doesn’t work.
Me: Right, what happens when you try and open up a webpage?
Caller: Nothing.
(runs caller through opening up IE and goto www.google.com "page cannot be displayed" ) how is that nothing… ?

whats a job like in support, any good?

No, no, hell no!

I would rather shovel elephant dung for 40 hours a week than work on tech support. It's often bordering on impossible to get the information you need from a customer, because they haven't a clue.

I only do tech support for people I know. From experience, I've found it's easier and quicker to just go round to their house and sort it out than to try to do it over the phone, even if it's very simple. If you work tech support, you have to do it over the phone. You need the patience of Job and I haven't got it.

I'm not knocking the users here. It's just a matter of people having no idea about something they use. I'd be the same with a car. Most people are clueless in some areas.
