Nikon D60

you have to say, why did they release it?

because they need the anit dust and anti shake tick box features to keep up with the competition, if I was nikon I'd be worried there are a lot of competitors in the entry level market now and a lot of them are offering beter spec lists than this.

woohoo :)

the cherry-on-the-top end of the new functions comes the addition of a sensor that turns off the screen when the camera is held up to the eye and a user interface that rotates when the camera is upended.

But that was already in the 400d. The screen rotating is quite cool, though.

No AF motor? Why? I'm so glad i've got a D50.

Every dedicated prime meaning, about half in actual fact, and half the zoom range meaning about a quarter, half of which have AF-S replacements.

Exactly, which is what the point was, who's going to buy cheap entry level DSLRs and then be upset when the £250 85mm doesn't AF? hardly anyone, because most of those people will be more than happy with a zoom.

10.5mm - £400
14mm - £1000
16mm - £500
18mm - £1150
20mm - £350
24mm - £280
28mm - £170
35mm - £200
50mm - £79
50mm - £190
85mm - £750
85mm - £250
105mm - £639
135mm - £849
180mm - £500
200mm+ are AF-S

Anyone likely to buy any of those primes bar the £80 50mm and maybe the 35mm, would probably be preparing to upgrade the body sooner or later anyway.

disapointing.

admittedly the anti dust would be nice to have, but tbh - i dont have much issue atm with my d50. wouldn't have expected a top LCD, so no suprise it's not there. lack of liveview, would also be handy to be able to invert the main LCD so that the background was black and the text was white - much more use than a display that rotates (gimmick). don't get the point of turning the LCD off when you put your eye up to it - but then i don't have my LCD on unless i'm chimping. is it to do with low light shooting? because if you're doing that then surely you'd compose the shot and then remote fire it - meaning the LCD would be on?

so basically, it's a rushed job with nothing useful but a couple of gimmick features :(

poor show nikon, the 450D is better

Not really worht the effore that 'upgrade' imo. I realise they are trying to keep the costs right down to try and maintain the bottom part of the market, but they might as well have just kept the D40/D40X and tried to push the price down further. Wonder what they'll call the next upgrade to to the entry level model now that they've used up D40 onwards.

Tbh, after sifting through the links; this looks like a waste of time and resources. I think when I get money for a new camera, I'll be changing over to the 450D. I needs me a 10-20mm before the summer.
