What’s it like running XP under Parallels? I’ve never read up on this as I have my main PC and just use my G4 Mac cube once in a blue moon so havent the need to install it etc, is just like VM Ware under windows? I can imagine it runs slow though?

Not as I expected.

Turns out you can only whack 64Mb of your graphics card memory down for it, so that basically kills the whole idea for me.

No hardware acceleration so anything graphical you can kiss goodbye. Also, it only works on Intel chips so don't waste time/effort on that G4. :)
 
I usually switch my machine off each night, so my longest run time is about 12 hours. No crashes for as long as I can remember...certainly not ones requiring a reboot.

OS X or Windows?

I ran XP for over 24 hours last week and it was fine. :)
 
I've never had any major problems (that weren't harware related) with either XP or OSX. Guess it just depends on what you're doing with them

Same.

If you have frequent reboots and/or freezing on a continuing basis then it's either a hardware fault (usually with Macs it's badly seated RAM), or conflicting drivers (usually because there's traces of them all over the registry).

Yes and I have a hackintosh at home (trying out before splurging on a MAC Pro) however you can't discuss how to do this on these forums. There are plenty of dedicated forums however where you can just use Google.

I wouldn't say it's that, unless by the setup you mean stopping the user from doing absolutely anything other than start programs - in which case I agree with you! we can assume that home pcs aren't configured in this way, though. You just have to look after it - it's probably quite a sad thing to admit, but I rely on my computer so I treat it with respect. I keep it clean (externally and internally) and don't install stuff I don't trust. With Macs that's really all you have to do. With windows, the only extra thing I do is run spyware and virus scans in the middle of the night to make sure it's clean. Easy peasy.

they should all be power-users with the odd few being local admins. some have managed to put itunes on but thats no biggie.

on both platforms watch what you do on the internet and youll be fine in regard to malware.
