New car, Z4 roadster

:p

Love it Wicksta - will have to have a good nose around it.

I'm confused at the difference between the 3.0Si Vs the Z4M and why the M is getting stick and people are saying get the 3.0 instead. Did any of you guys pick one over the other?

The 3.0Si is a much better day to day car and offers excellent performance. Unless you're always on a track, for the extra £10k or so the M commands, the extra performance isn't worth it to most people given the extra purchase price and significantly more expensive running costs.

Common consensus is that the 3.0Si is more precise and honed in the way it drives whereas the M is just crazy :p

The M is a great second car but for a main day to day car, the 3.0Si is the better of the two unless of course you are rich.

Enjoy the new motor, I'm gonna miss my roadster when summer eventually arrives.

Regarding the usability of the M, I knock up around 400 miles a week in mine and apart from the petrol costs it's still very usable on a day to day basis. The ride is reasonably stiff but no more so than the Si with the awful runflat tyres.

Once you've mastered the sensitive throttle, it can be driven just as smoothly round round town and through the rush hour traffic. Give it a nice B road, open her up and you've got real hooligan on your hands.

The only downside for me is the boot space is quite a bit smaller than the Si, but you can't have your cake and eat it eh?

Lovely car mate (well both of you!) :) Good to see a fellow Z4'er (3.0 Roadster). Hope its nice tomorrow so I can give it a clean and take it for a spank :D:cool::eek:

Thanks for the comments everyone, I expected a lot of bad ones so was pleasantly surprised!

Lovely cars HEADRAT and Adam, and you both have nav too! I've ripped all the kit out of my 325ci so will be adding the TV function, plus my Intravee with iPod adapter and MP3 changer soon. Unfortunately it's a bit more involved than just removing the carpet and bolting the intravee/changer in like it was on the e46.

BMW supplied the car with it's original 2006-2 nav DVD which is great because it's the subject of a warranty return so I will be able to get a 2008-1 one to replace it. ;) However I will be burning my own one with all the speed camera locations on it.

I need to upgrade my nav disc, think its a 2002-2 edition, you can trade up for £100 by taking your old mapping disc to your local bmw dealer but i'm waiting for the 2008 edition (is it out yet?). I also need the mapping software upgraded.

I tried to 'make' a map disc but it failed miserably.

The 2008 one is out I believe, I got one for dandle's 530d which is the 'Professional' version rather than the 'High' one we need in our Z4s.

If you add me to msn (address is in trust) I'll gladly send you a 2008-1 one with speed camera POIs on once I get it sorted over the next week or so. I'll be burning my own one so it's no hardship to burn an extra copy and pop it in the post.

not really much point when there is allready the Z4M, I don't think they will tbh.

true but the z4m is very much more track focused, a normal Z4 with the TT would but a very good every day car that the normal Z4 driver could live with.

As scuzi said it would be nice to see it in the facelift z4

The 265bhp in the 3.0Si is perfectly adequate for the size of the car. IIRC the twin turbo unit is significantly heaver than the N52 3.0Si which I believe is the lightest 6 cylinder production engine to date.

I don't think the Z4 would respond well to much more weight over the wheels without overhauled suspension geometry similar to that of the Z4M which defeats the purpose.

ah ok I did not think of that.

The Z4m is certainly heavier on paper but does have the M-differential and of course bigger brakes and the revvy 'M' engine.

That said the 3.0 (even the 231 hp variant) pulls smoothly from low rpm and can take off rather swiftly :) I would like to compare the 260hp 3.0 Si engine for comparision :)
