Just ordered one of these for "08" plate delivery

My parents have the 1.6SXi 5-door. Quite like it myself, but then I'll happily admit that I've not driven many cars. I do still think people are being harsh on it though; they've had no problems with it in the 22 months they've had it.

Radio is rubbish though.

I had a 1.8 sri forced upon me in my old job.. a spirited gearchange coming onto the M4 and this happened....

you literally couldn't give me one. Hateful hateful car.
How heavy handed are you!

I gave one a few spirited gear changes as I was J turning it through the VXR agility course last year. Never had anything like that happen.

Obviously too much wrist strength. ;)

Once you've driven one for more than a couple of days, you get used to how the indicators work - and it's a really rather good idea.

Push it slightly one way, and it flashes 3 times. Great for changing lanes on the motorway. Push it all the way, it "locks" in one direction. To cancel - quickly flick it in the same direction, or gently push it the other way - people's biggest mistake is pressing it fully in the opposite direction!

Picked the car up and then proceeded onto the motorway, Couldn't figure this out so the indicators were flashing one way then the other, people behind must have thought I was crazy!

My 'daily driver' is a 51 plate Xsara VTS, which does have good brakes - but those on the Astra seemed as if you could stop on a sixpence from 30mph!

I drove an SRi 130 CDTi XYZABC etc. Astra a while back. Nice engine for a derv and reasonable handling. Then three of us went up to Bristol a few months back and they gave us a 1.6 petrol. I can honestly say that it felt slower than my old 1.1 Mk2 Fiesta, and after sitting in the back I don't think the hard scratchy plastic trim was actually any better. POS.

I had to use my mates 1.8sri for the day and it wasn’t as bad as I expected but my god the indicators, I got onto the motorway and indicated to move to the outside lane then clicked down to cancel and it started flashing as if I was moving back to the inside lane again, thought the indicators were broken at first until I figured it out. The white van man behind me was not amused.

My mum had an SXi and it wasnt too bad. Didn't feel cheap, nor did it feel expensive, which it is for the sort of car that it is.

I love the look of the 3 door though, i'd happily buy a 1.9 CDTi if i had the finances, but if i had that sort of cash, the Astra would certainly not be on the top of the 'to buy' list :)

As said before, I am considering one... as I was offered a 1.9CDTI for ~£6000...but saying that I have my heart set on a fast petrol CTR/VX220/CELICA .... what to do... what to do!

Only driven the Diesel for any distance and i liked it, much nicer engine than the Focus and i liked the indicators !!

We have lots of employees who have gone from an astra to the focus and all preferred the astra (all diesels) main complaints with the focus have been the seats + road noise with the awful engines that sound like they are shaking themselves apart and many actually have !!

Never got the current Astra hate as it seems a solid car and the diesels are a nice engine.

Ive gto a new SRi with VXR pack and it errrr isnt bad but not the sort of car I would buy with my own money.
I agree with what people say about the indicators, ive had a Vectra and 2 Astras over the past 12 months and still cant get used to the damn things and indicate like a mad man on motorways :)
